I Like Thursday #310

Happy Thursday, friends!  I'm joining in with LeeAnna and friends at Not Afraid of Color for I Like Thursday as I always do.   And this week we're looking ahead to Thanksgiving!

Since our boys graduated from college and moved off to new communities on their own, we've had to figure out new holiday traditions.  To accommodate their work schedules, Mike and I have been taking a little road trip every Thanksgiving, and taking our meal along with us!  That means I roast the turkey ahead of time, package it up with a few easy sides, and it rides along in a cooler.  (It also means a lot less work and cleanup when we're at either son's house!)

We do a pretty simple meal because it's easier for traveling, but there is one dish that is always requested, and that is a pie I make that everyone likes.  Again, it's really simple, but very tasty!

Oreo crumb crust, and two layers of pudding.
I use sugar free because it's better for Mike, and make each layer with only 1 and 1/4 cups of milk.  That way it sets up nice and thick and the layers stay separate from each other.
A little whipped cream on top, and we're all set!

A simple meal leaves lots of time for games, football, watching a movie or whatever we want to do.
Cheers!

What else has been going on this week?  I finished stitching the Autumn SAL from Days filled with Joy, and it is really sweet!  I'm not sure I'll get it fully finished anytime soon, but I think it would make a nice pillow cover for the living room couch.   Here I just laid some Autumn-themed squares around it to give you an idea.

I read a really good book this week, too.  It's historical fiction about the Polish Jews who fled into the great forests there during WWII and were able to hide from the Nazis.  It's a fascinating story about their survival, and I learned so much from the story.

It's supposed to snow and be very cold here today and tomorrow, so I'm anticipating lots of hibernating with another good book and a cup of hot tea and then time spent in the sewing room, too.  Hope you have a great Thursday, too!

A simple meal with family is just as meaningful and special as a fancy one.

It's snowing again here, we woke to snow the last 4 mornings! Thank goodness it is real fine snow. Your pie sounds delicious, who doesn't love pudding:) Just wait til the boys get married and Holidays are no longer the same at all!!

the book sounds good I found it on kindle unlimited so it is now on my fire to read. yes when family spreads out and neither of your son's are married it sounds like it is best to travel to them. I take it they live in comfortable driving distances from each other?

Hi Diann! Oh, that book looks good. I have to check and see if our library has it. And, simple meals sound wonderful!! It's the being-together time that really matters. We have to adjust our gatherings, too. The spirit is there no matter what day or how it's celebrated. We are thankful! Happy Thursday! {{Hugs}} ~smile~ Roseanne

Thanks for the book referral. I'm 'reading on audiobook' The Kitchen right now. Pretty good one also. Your Thanksgiving sounds great and cooked turkeys travel well. Which layer of the pudding do you put on top? Might be one to try in my house and see what everyone says!
Have a good Thursday.

As families grow, traditions kind of morph and/or get adapted into the new families (as both of my girls have done with some things from their childhood!). Thanks for another book recommendation; guess what I got from the library yesterday?! Remarkably Bright Creatures! Just a few chapters in, and I am really enjoying it.

Safe travels on you road trip to visit your sons. I hope the weather cooperates. I'm glad I don't live any closer to Buffalo than I do. Some areas are expecting up to 4 FT of lake effect snow through the weekend. And the Bills are supposed to play at home!

We plan to have a very quiet subdued Thanksgiving, which is fine by us. Yours sounds lovely. That embroidery will make a cute pillow.

We'll be traveling to Grad Girl's for Thanksgiving because she has to work that Wednesday before Thanksgiving. So we'll be on the road too. Stay warm today and enjoy your book and tea.

Your traveling meal is a great idea, and that pie sounds delicious! Looks like everyone gets to enjoy the time together that way, including Mom. ;) Our kids will be on the road to our house!

Love the idea of a travelling Thanksgiving. I have taken a cooked turkey to daughter's house but not the meal. Thanks for sharing that easy pie recipe...sounds delicious. Love those autumn fabrics around your pretty embroidery. It would make a great pillow.

the pie sounds right up my alley but it's the family togetherness that really sounds good. Your men are wonderful, is that dominoes? I love games.

We do odd days to be sure to have the girls and their families with us on the same day. This year it's the weekend before Christmas. It works best for us. Your desert sounds yummy!!!
