I Like Thursday #179

Is it Thursday?  I can't really tell the difference between days lately.  How about you?  Most days have been pretty much the same, except for when I visit a grocery store to stock up, and then I quickly get in and out while trying to stay a safe distance away from anyone else I pass by.  It's very strange, to say the least.

Staying home definitely feels the safest!

Mike likes a morning Starbucks coffee, so we've taken to stopping at the drive-thru, and then going for a little drive.  Monday we went in search of elk...

and found some west of town, down by the river.

Crossing the road... slow down cars!

There was actually a herd of at least 35 right near where we took these pictures, but too far away from where we were to get a good picture.

Yesterday our drive took us by the lake in the middle of town, and we stopped to get a photo of the newest sculpture that's just been installed in this little park.

Zooming out, there's this:

The small Statue of Liberty was installed here in 1950 as part of a Boy Scouts of America project.  Evidently there are about 200 of them around the U.S.

I wonder where we will drive to tomorrow, lol!

What's your favorite comfort food?  Mine is Cheeseburger Soup (recipe here) - an old Taste of Home recipe that I've modified a bit to make it healthier.  (Nonfat milk, regular grated cheese, instead of Velveeta, less butter and potatoes - but still very tasty!)  Our grocery store had no ground beef (none at all!!!) when I went to stock up, but there was ground turkey, and that worked just fine for this soup.

I had fun sewing up these quilted cases for Carole @From My Carolina Home's Safelight project. I put these on my weekly To-do list, and that was a good reminder to get going on them.

This year the tissue holder was added, and
those are really fun and quick to make!

With all the time spent at home recently, I finished up my April book club book, and it is such a good story!

I think it may be considered a Young Adult book, but it held my interest throughout the entire story.  It's about a 17 year old boy who befriends a 92 year old woman in his apartment building in New York City and the way his life changes because of their friendship.

Hope you are all hanging in there!   The State of Colorado issued a "Stay at Home" order starting today, so I will be doing what I've been doing for about two weeks - staying home except for grocery shopping and our daily afternoon walk in the neighborhood.  Joining in with LeeAnna and the other "I Like Thursday" bloggers at Not Afraid of Color.

Nice likes. The sculpture is lovely. Oh I love elk! In Montana areas where they are likely to cross, they make over passes for them it is awesome. Really no hamburger....I will say that it has gotten better since Michigan has issued the shelter in place order. Store has been quieter and we are getting trucks in daily. We have hamburger, and chicken. Stay safe and shelter in place.

I so love to see elk and I know I won't see any this year what with staying home. Isn't it odd what you can find one day at the grocery store now and can't find the next time you go. That sounds like an interesting book. I will check and see if my library has it. I have been having a hard time finding a book to hold my interest lately (but then I have been easily distracted as a lot of us are)

Elk crossing! I think it is hit or miss for meat as the trucks come in... Hubby said the meat guys meet the trucks now and get so excited when they get a good shipment in! Thanks for the book title. I'll have to look for that one. Love that you are getting out to explore safely.

Elk - wow! That's not something you see every day.
That soup looks delicious. I love turkey as a sub for burger but it's expensive at our regular store, so I buy it at Aldi where the price is a little lower.
That is pretty fabric on those cases.
Glad you are still getting out for your walks. We feel lucky to live in such an isolated area right now, Going into our small town is not the carefree trip it used to be, but we know this current situation won't last forever!

We saw a couple of those heart sculptures in the Woodstock, NY area last September. DH loved the soup I made yesterday so maybe I'll give your recipe a try. Our Kroger is slowly returning to normal, now that they are limiting how much you can buy at one time. Nevertheless, couples are going around with separate baskets and doubling up. I try to convince myself they are shopping for their neighbors ....

I love those cases! It's on my list to make myself a laptop sleeve, and maybe I'll get to that soon. And I love your idea of driving around to see cool places. Definitely a way to get out of the house without increasing exposure! Thanks for sharing another week!

Hi Diann! It is hard to know what day it is, and even to believe it is still March. This has been the longest month. Our stay-at-home order started this week and lasts until April 24th. That's a LONG time. Illinois' started two weeks ago so I've been working from home for the last two weeks. That looks like a good book and a touching story. I'll check it out! ~smile~ Roseanne

Thanks for sharing that recipe in your list of likes, Diann! I have browned ground beef in my freezer. I store it by the pound in freezer bags for ease of use.

The photos of the elk reminds me of a funny family story when we visited Yellowstone. I'll have to share it with you in an email. What a great idea - coffee and a drive. I'm going to suggest that to hubs. We are under a shelter in place now, but can still be outside; in fact, our Gov was encouraging us to be outdoors (just not in stores and not close to each other). Any good suggestions on shows? We're about out - just finished Mystery Road, which we thoroughly enjoyed. I'm really wanting to get BritBox.

Not much meat of any kind at the store when I last shopped last Wednesday. I have lots of canned food, so I should be able to stay out of the store for a month or two. A friend has a freezer full of elk if I get in a bind. I love seeing your elk - so amazing!!

Mmm - comfort food. Mac and cheese. Elk - how excellent. We don't have the out here. since I'm working as usual (at home), we still know what day of the week it is. But weekends are weird. I love the heart. Stay safe, and hopefully entertained.

great pic of the heart sculpture!! And love an Elk! Yum starbucks, and driving to see something new. The soup sounds fine to me since I can't eat beef, but we can't find ground turkey here. The book sounds enchanting, what a great concept crossing the age barriers to make friends. LeeAnna

It's been a weird week and a half. The college girl is still here, nothing to go back to campus for now. She and I go for a walk about mid morning before she starts on her school work, then all three of us go for a walk at lunch, then me and My Guy after we shut down the computers for the day. It's about the only way we are all staying sane. Hope you've got more good books to enjoy and lots of stitching stuff to keep you busy.

We’ve been on a stay at home directive for close to two weeks because It came shortly after I taught my last yoga class which was two weeks ago today. Most gyms and personal care businesses shut that day too. Now everything is but essential services. I love seeing the elk; I used to live beside Elk Island National Park in Alberta. However we saw more bison than elk! A warning from the city chief medical officer in Toronto about take out drinks: do not get a lid on them. In order to put that lid on properly, the person has had to palm the entire lid; better to risk a spill then catching this virus.
