When I first saw Louvered, the second quilt in Kelly's book, I knew it was one I'd enjoy making! A rainbow of scrappy bits of fabric, tied together with a low volume background fabric - my favorite kind of project!
I began with my scraps, sorted by color, matching up like sized pieces.
These color blocks grew until I had enough to start cutting 3.5 x 8.5 "bricks," and I decided I would need four of each color.
Kona Cream for a background pulled everything together into four larger blocks, measuring about 13 x 18.
And then... I finished them into four mini Louvered quilts...
Quilted with my favorite wavy lines and bound in a rainbow of matching Kona solids, these turned out to be perfect for some scrappy placemats on my dining room table!
You might notice that I made one more for the center of the table - combining all four colors!
Sometimes when you start sewing scraps together, you just can't stop.
These are going to be fun to use with my Fiesta Ware!
I hope you've enjoyed seeing my project inspired by Kelly's new book! I've really enjoyed sharing it with you! I love your placemats and they look really great with the colorful dishes! What a great way to put some scraps in a place where they can be enjoyed, I think I'll have to try that.
They look fabulous with that Fiestaware--nice finish on these hugs, Julierose
Well, I love everything you make! Placemats were a perfect use of that pattern (and you dinnerware)! I am thinking that I will have to buy this book.
What pretty placemats and with the Fiesta your table is so cute! And that little runner with all colors just tops it off. That looks like a winner. Congrats on being on the hop! :)
I need placemats for our table. Did you use anything besides batting in the middle of yours?
Your placemats are perfect and a great way to try out Kelly's technique and pattern. She is coming to Music City Modern in September and I may just have to come back for that meeting.
These are great, Diann! Perfect for your table. The method of using scraps looks really fun and easy :)
I love these on your table with your fiesta ware! Everything looks great! Thanks for sharing!
So cute and used a little of the scraps. I'm sure you have more!
love them they turned out great, look great on the table with the Fiesta dishes
That is a fabulous and fun take on the original. Love the colorful placemats. I can actually picture you saying - 'make sure you have foods of all colors on your plate', just like the placemats :-D You are absolutely correct - when I start sewing scraps, I usually overshoot the finish line by a mile :-)
Love how your placemats turned out!! You did a fabulous job on them!
I love your Louvered placemats, Diann! They look so cheerful on your table, and I'm glad you enjoyed making them. Thank you so much for participating in the Stash Statement blog hop!

Your placements are wonderful. I love that you used different colors in each one and tied them together with your centerpiece - great idea.
What a wonderful table scene. Great job!
Dun ways to make this pattern for a different use --- they don't always have to be big quilts --- thanks for the suggestion.
oh they look SO good on your table! I love seeing how folks take a pattern and make it their own!
What a great idea to make placemats instead of the quilt! Looks great!
Oooh, they make such a pretty table setting! Congrats on executing a very fun interpretation of the pattern.
I saw these on IG and forgot to go right then to look as they sure caught my eye! Scraps AND rainbows?!! Love what you did Diann! And the smaller one in the centre is perfection!
This is a great interpretation of the design, and that center piece that ties them together is inspired. You're right, they look terrific with the Fiesta ware.
What a great idea to make placements. They look great.
Very nice! Looks like lots of fun!
They look so beautiful and springy on your table!
Your placemats are wonderful! I love them with your fiestaware.
I have been looking through everyone's versions of the terrific patterns in Kelly's new book, "Stash Statement", and I LOVE yours. What a great idea as my everyday dishes are Fiesta ware, too. I won a copy of Kelly's wonderful book and its absolutely the BEST scrap book I've ever seen. I'm going to be using every pattern in that book -- with over 40 years of scraps I need lots of patterns to use those scraps up! Love your placemats! Deb E / Oregon
I really love these!
