Meet Jake, the helper dog -
Isn't he a good looking guy? And such a sweetie, too! Jake doesn't live at our house, he lives down the street, but he likes to come visit us when we're out in the yard. (I'm not sure why his people don't miss him, but they don't seem to...) When he was visiting us the other day, I told him he could help me pick up sticks, so he did! But of course, he really just wanted to play with them!
Also seen out in our yard -
A red-breasted nuthatch, checking out the birdhouses!
I would love it if someone made a nest in one of our birdhouses, but we can't tell yet.
I loved this poem that a friend sent to me recently:
A Song
The birders I encountered
in books and in the worldshared little except this simple secret:
if you listen to birds,
every day will have a song in it.
~ Kyo McLear
My friend found it on this blog - A First Sip. This blogger posts a daily poem or quote with a photo that's meant to offer some beginning of the day inspiration, and I've been enjoying it since I discovered it, too.
I like this little bouquet of flowers that I got to dress up my dining room table for my Stash Statement bloghop post.
I love bouquets of flowers, but don't have them very often, until I have garden flowers that are ready to cut and put in a vase.
I like "rearranging!" I used to rearrange my furniture on a regular basis, but I think we've lived here long enough that we've found the best arrangements that work for us. Instead, I enjoy rearranging what's on the walls!
So, in our dining room/family room, here's what the wall has looked like for a long time -
The big wall-hanging is the very first project I ever blogged about, way back in 2013! I participated in the And Sew On block of the month, put on by Kristy of Quiet Play. All of the blocks are paper-pieced, and some very intricate!
Why I pinned it up on the dining room wall, I can't tell you, except that I was really proud of this project and wanted everyone to see it! (And that's how I decorate, lol!)
But this week, I took all of that down, and hung up my latest finish, String Star.
There's still room for more on that wall, and maybe the little penguins mini needs to go back up - I just haven't decided yet!
And one more like to share this week - we've been enjoying "Sherlock" on Netflix recently.
British detective shows are my favorites, and these are a lot of fun! I will even admit to having a bit of a crush on Benedict Cumberbatch...
Hope you're having a great week! Thanks for visiting, and don't miss the other I Like Thursday bloggers you can find linked up at LeeAnna's place, Not Afraid of Color!

What a perfect spot for your String Star! I’m so glad you are putting it up to be enjoyed. And who doesn’t have a crush on Benedict Cumberbatch?!?
Lots of fun favorites this week. Jake looks like a sweetie. Your String Star looks fantastic. It's nice to do a decorating refresh every now and then.
Your star looks great on the wall! Do red-breasted nuthatches walk head-first down trees like the blue ones do?
British TV just is the best in many genres! Watch for Last Tango in Halifax, and Happy Valley is another detective excellent show. Sarah Lancashire is an incredible actress in both, and O'Brien, lady's maid to Cora, Countess of Grantham, plays her sister. We had a beautiful rosy-breasted bird, think maybe a finch but the beak wasn't stubby enough, or a redpoll...reminds me to look it up! I love that you have a visiting dog, and I LOVE seeing your penguins mini, which, IMHO should stay on the wall! Off now to read your Stash Statement post!
Oh dear-I totally agree on Benedict. I hang my quilts, too. I change for a holiday or to- show- off- or - just appreciate - my- own - hard - work- and- the -results- on- a new one. Your Stash placements are so cheery- I need to add that to my list of goals.
The string star is FAB!!! I love it! I miss Sherlock on PBS, it was such a great show!
looks like you have a lot of room for hanging quilts - quite the opposite for me, so many wall book shelves and things that I don't have room :(
we have dogs that come visit us too, some I like and some I don't! with how much people love their dogs I always wonder why they let them roam the neighborhoods!
Hi Diann,
Aww, Jake the helper dog looks so friendly and cute lying there in the grass. I'm glad you identified the nuthatch as I thought it was a robin. HAHA - I'm not up on all the different kinds of birds, obviously! Your flowers look so darn pretty on the table! It won't be too long and we'll be able to pick some fresh ones from the garden. And your string star looks beyond fabulous - wow! I love it and it looks so nice hanging there. I'll bet everyone enjoys it. ~smile~ Roseanne
well you need a spotlight on that latest work. Fab!!!
How nice to have a visiting dog. If we came maybe Jake would too and play with baby Milo. The flowers are just a yummy color. Going to check the blog link you gave us, thanks
Your string star looks wonderful up on that wall! Seeing your bouquet of flowers reminds me how much I enjoy them too. Right now we have just dirt. No grass, no trees, no flowers. Maybe I'll go to the store today and bring a little color into our world! Thank you for the inspiration! :)
Jake looks quite content! Love your string quilt! String blocks are so fabulous. Perfect flowers to go with your wonderful placemats.
Your String Star quilt deserves a little time in the spotlight! It's great to rearrange things a bit. Gives you a new appreciation for both the room and the objects in it :)
That string star is fantastic. That Sherlock series was so much fun. :-) I love nuthatches!
I enjoyed that Sherlock series too. I hope the little nuthatch decides to move in! We need to put up some birdhouses for the bluebirds.
Love that string star on your wall!
Your dog-friend is adorable. I'd miss him if he was mine!
We had a blue bird nesting in one of our boxes, and her husband flew in to help several times a day - lol! Now they seem to be gone, and we never saw any babies, but I understand that is not unusual. This is our first spring with birdhouses (my husband built), and we got so excited when we realized they were nesting!
Love the new quilt up on your wall!! I have my design wall in the front room - I tell people that's the *modern* way to decorate - ha ha ha! Enjoy sherlock!
Love your string star. A very inspiring and informative post. I like your likes.
