A little bit of slow stitching...

Only a few stitches were added to my Autumn embroidery piece while we were on our trip to Michigan.  I chose this section with the oak leaves because we saw lots of oak trees here and acorns - my husband is fascinated by acorns!

We did see some hints of fall leaf color along the roadsides as we explored and at Tahquamenon State Park where we hiked to the falls.

Other colorful sights included this beautiful monarch butterfly on a zinnia.

Our last day was spent in Grand Rapids where we met up with some dear friends and visited their botanic gardens and hunted around for all the Chihuly glass pieces that are on exhibit there right now.  They are amazing!

Now that we are home from our trip, I expect my slow stitching to pick back up again and there's definitely plenty to do for today's Slow Sunday Stitching

The arboretum had a Chihuly glass exhibit some years ago that was amazing. Glad you are safely home again. Now that the fair is over, I plan some sewing this week too.

A hike to a waterfall sounds like a great afternoon. I enjoyed the Chihuly exhibit at the St. Louis Botanical Garden last year. His works are truly amazing and I love the hide-n-seek on the walk through the park. Welcome home!

Beautiful photos from your trip. What a pretty waterfall to see on your hike. I love when gardens have art installations. Enjoy getting back to your stitching.

I think my comment disappeared as I was ready to send it. That waterfall was amazing. I saw the Chilhuly exhibit at the Denver Botanic Gardens, maybe 10 years ago. I was so fascinated by the glass sculptures I had to remind myself to look at the flowers, too. Looks like you had a nice trip.

Such pretty photos. The scenery up there is gorgeous, we went in the late spring and it was so green. Hope you've had time to catch up on all the after vacation chores and now have time to really sit and stitch.

What a beautiful waterfalls! Perfect photo of the monarch, on zinnia, maybe?! I saw one in my garden today, which surprised me as it was a rather cold 50 degrees at the time! They have several Chihuly glass hangings at Mayo Clinic, which was my first time to see them in person. He must be one busy artist!!!

Your stitch is looking wonderful, Diann and how appropriate to work on the oak leaves as you are seeing so many oak trees and acorns ( I have the same fascination with them:) Wow the glass sculpture is amazing! It sounds like you are having a wonderful time. Safe travels. Hugs.

The UP is Michigan's little secret paradise. Best bargain made when Ohio wanted a strip of land on the southern border of the state. The troll is a tongue and cheek reference to people who live south of the Mackinaw bridge...AKA trolls :)

Thanks for sharing your photos! The Hubster and I saw some very cool Chihuly glass pieces when we had a fascinating day at the Tacoma glass factory and museum. That was such fun, and we were mesmerized by the glass blowing! :)
