Midweek Update

I've spent the last several days getting the border on my Little House quilt top, made along with Melva's sew-along at Melva Loves Scraps.  And it is done!

I chose to add a plain 3.5 inch border all the way around using Grunge Manilla.  I thought this type of border would frame all the busy pumpkins and sunflowers in my blocks and create some calm!

I'm one of those border makers who does better with lots of measuring.  If the standard is "measure twice, cut once," I'm more likely to measure five times, then cut!  And in all honesty, I cut the border strips a little bigger to begin with, and then measure again before cutting to size.

Fortunately, all went well and I'm liking how this looks!

54.5 inches square.

Next steps, of course, are to decide on a backing and I probably need to stock up on batting again.   Since this is a fall-themed quilt, I'm giving myself some time to get it all the way to the finish line, but I'm pretty excited to have gotten this far!

Oh Diann it is gorgeous! I do love that color combo, and it is amazing how that border just sets off those colors so beautifully. Nicely done!
I hope to get to join the party soon. I might just shamelessly copy your layout and border ideas. :D

Oh Diann, your Little House quilt is gorgeous. The 3.5 " grunge fabric was perfect. This quilt makes me so happy, - so cheerful. Beautiful job, sweet friend. Hugs.

love the color combo you did a great job on that quilt. A lot of times I will cut a little larger and square up in the end.

Your border choice is great! The blocks float and my eye is drawn to all the color--especially the teal! I lay the strip across the middle of the quilt and mark with a pin the end with a pin. I does help if I've sewn consistently and the outer edge measurements are close to the same! Using a measuring tape, I've been known to read the numbers incorrectly. . .LOL!!

Lovely finish to your top! You've got plenty of time before fall to get this beauty done. Thanks for sharing on my weekly show and tell, Wednesday Wait Loss.
