Over the weekend we went on a Colorado road trip! We started by driving a long ways south to Alamosa, Colorado. The destination was a 50th wedding anniversary celebration for dear college friends whose wedding I was in all those years ago. It was a huge party, so I only got a moment with my friend, but it was good to see her!
There were lots of mountain views and beautiful skies.
Going through Colorado Springs you see Pike's Peak.
Heading west to Alamosa.
The next day we drove north again, through the San Luis Valley.
I bet you won't be surprised to hear that we found a winery to visit!
But this one might surprise you - between Cripple Creek and Victor (old mining towns) there is a troll!
This is one of the Thomas Danbo troll sculptures
that he is installing all around the world.
Back at home, my pink petunias seem happy in their hanging basket! That is LeeAnna's question of the week - what are our favorite flowers to plant? I have the best success with marigolds and petunias. The marigolds come back from seed every year, so they aren't blooming yet. But the petunias are doing great!

What a fun road trip! Such interesting clouds in that very blue sky. Beautiful scenery. You will have to plan another visit with your friends where it is just the four of you so you can spend more time chatting. Maybe you could meet each other half way….
That troll is huge! Your petunias are doing well. We’ve had lots of rain lately so our gardens and patio pots are all flourishing…unfortunately, the weeds are too!

You have such a beautiful state to travel through! Sixty years is quite the milestone, congratulations to your friends. We will see #57 this year, and I hope our kids are planning a big party for our 60th - lol not really, we aren't party people anymore. ;) Your petunias are beautiful. I threw out flower seeds and barely scraped them in, and I have cosmos and marigolds and zinnias blooming. I'd like to have a yard full of flowers!
That sounds like a great road trip! I love petunias but I hate having to deadhead them when they get so thick.
That troll is very cool! I will have to look up that artist. Thank you!
oh what fun, and seeing another winery sounds perfect. Glad you reconnected with your longtime friend. I seem to only grow leggy nearly flowerless petunias but love their burst of color. They must be endurant to live in our heat

The Dambo trolls are showing up in so many places!
You and your flowers are looking lovely! I think that troll would freak me out.
I love the trolls - we saw a lot of them in Wisconsin a different artist. I read about these but didn't know there was one near Cripple Creek. Do you know when it was put there? I can't remember what year we were there last but I believe it was about 4 years ago - did we miss it I wonder or was it placed there after we left?
