Here we are at the end of the year - always so hard to believe that another year has passed! I always enjoy joining in with Meadow Mist Designs' end of the year link ups, and have again had a good time looking through this year's photos and posts to decide what are my entries for the Best of 2025.
In my last post of 2024, as I was looking ahead to this year, I wrote about my plan to finish up "Pieces of My Life," a quilt I made to celebrate my 70th birthday, and early in 2025 I did finish it! This was made as quilt-along with Melva Loves Scraps, and it was a delightful QAL. With each block, Melva included questions and journaling ideas to inspire us to think about different meaningful events of our lives. You can read my finished post here.
Earlier in the year I finally finished a UFO from several years ago. This is Masala Box, a Sew Preeti Quilts design. I enjoyed making the blocks as a Rainbow Scrap Challenge project in 2022, sewed the top together in 2023, and then it just sat. It feels good to have it finished!
Another QAL I participated in this past year was mmmquilts' "Glowing Hearts," and it is also a favorite finish. I made this with an Island Batik jelly roll, and had fun figuring out how to use as many strips as possible to create the look that Sandra designed.
I've continued to participate in the Joyful Quilter's Table Scraps Challenge throughout the year. This involves creating a monthly mini quilt project that goes along with Joy's special challenge and the Rainbow Scrap Challenge color of the month. I enjoy that satisfying finish each month, and put them here and there around the house. The one below is a favorite because I purchased the fabric at a quilt shop I visited while on our trip to the Oregon Coast in September.
And, last, but very definitely not least, one of my all-time favorite finishes - Starburst! About 40 inches square - small but mighty, with 96 different scrappy fabrics making the 100 blocks (the four quarter stars that make up the center are all the same)! This was a very fun Rainbow Scrap Challenge project for 2025.
Thanks for visiting and reading along with my year-end rambling!

Well done Diann, your highlighted projects are gorgeous! Wow, I love Starburst too! Happy new year!
Starburst is a favourite for sure! Beautiful projects with lots of scraps used up. We all know there are more scraps waiting to be used in 2026. Here’s to another great year ahead. Gail at the cozy quilter
Love that Starburst too! Such awesome quilts! You really accomplished a lot!
How prolific you've been and what a lovely parade. My favorite is your favorite!
You got a lot done this year, including an oldie, but goodie. Can't wait to see your 2026 projects. Happy New Year.
Pat
You had some really great finishes so I am sure it was kinda hard to pick!
Starburst is one of my favorites of your finishes too! You sure had some super finishes this year!
A very productive year!
you made it a great year, Diann!
All beautiful and Starburst has always been a favourite. I've loved seeing it grow month by month.
I haven't even started a Best of year still - I need to get busy and do that - you had some great finishes!!
Nice to see a selection of your quilts... I'm going to spend some time on your Starburst quilt -- it would be a fun one to emulate. (steal, borrow, etc.) for this year's RSC. Although I might want to do something a little less involved... I haven't touched my 2025 RSC blocks.
Such wonderful finishes in 2025! Happy New Year!
It was so much fun to see your Best of 2025. You really DID have a good year. I hope you have a great last week of the year. Happy New Year!
Another Starburst fan here, Diann! Fun to see your year in review...you've had a very fun and productive year! Here's to the same for 2026! :)
Beautiful work with your scraps. I LOVE Starburst. The blue background was a fantastic choice. Can't wait to see what 2026 brings.
I love Starburst, too. I can see why it's your favorite.
Hurray for a glorious parade of finished projects. Of course, I am partial to Masala Box! Starburst is a spectacular finish. Kudos to you!
I may need to do a retrospective of my finishes this year. Hum, do I have photos of all of them? Yours were fun to visit... and I still love Starburst. Masala box makes a great RSC block... ideas, ideas!
You had some wonderful finishes this year. My favorite is the Starburst. Hope you have lots of fun finishes in 2026.
What a great list for your Best of 2025, Diann. You finished some gorgeous pieces.
Such eye candy! I love that Masala Box, as previously gushed about, but Starburst (again) is SO fabulous. It just pops & shines all over the place. LOVE!
You had a very good year. Starburst is amazing! Isn't it fun to see what can come from a scrap bin?
It is always amazing to look back and see all that got sewn over the past 12 months. I'm glad you had some UFO finishes, I love seeing 'Glowing Hearts' again, and that Oregon turquoise fabric--love! As I read through, I realized that many of us have virtual online 'guilds': activities we love, have done, and continue to do each year that bring us together and result in beautiful quilts for ourselves or to give away, spreading joy! Threads that bind indeed.
Such lovely finishes!! I'm especially drawn to Marsala and it made me remember that I think I have the pattern tucked away somewhere.
Great recap! Love seeing these pretty quilts again, especially masala box.
Love your gorgeous Masala Box! It looks so nice inrainbow colors
Well this was fun--almost all of your finishes were associated with people I like to follow so I'm enjoying both your work and their designs/prompts. I'm really intrigued by your first quilt, as I now realize that you and I must be very close in age. Not sure why I get a kick out of that, but I do. I have been a very bad blog reader in the past year, and I see that I have missed a lot. Here's to a year of more keeping in touch. Happy Quilting New Year!
