I hadn't really played with any dark scraps this month, so I dug out some pretty browns to try a block that might be a new project for 2026. It's a Jacob's Ladder block, which is quite simple, but just to be sure I knew the measurements and correct layout, I found a tutorial at Fat Quarter Shop.
I guess I'll start a new project box!
Sewing up all those parts for that block gave me a chance to get some more quarter star blocks sewn for the Exploding Star. Just one more row to go, and then I'll be sewing these into a top!
Making progress one row at a time!

Oh, I just love the quarter stars quilt you’re making! It just keeps getting better and better! The Jacob’s Ladder block turned out nicely too! It’s a block I’ve added to my RSC list, but not for 2026 (so many great blocks, never enough time!!)
So fun to watch the quarter star quilt come together!
Love love LOVE those stars! I also love Jacob's Ladder. That's one of my favorite quilt patterns. Maybe I will make one too. It's been years since I last made one. Thanks for the inspiration Diann!
Exploding Star is looking more and more lovely!! Nice start on your Jacob's Ladder piece, too...hope your weekend is a good one;)))
hugs, Julierose
I agree with everyone else on the quarter star quilt! Love Julierose's name for it, or is that what you've named it? Gosh I like that Jacob's Ladder block. Isn't it fun to start a new fresh bin for a project!
I just started another RSC quilt too. I would like to do another one as well. So many scraps to use! Your star quilt is beautiful. How are you going to quilt it? Gail at the cozy quilter
So glad that you had an empty project box! The beginning phase of a new quilt block collection is always so much fun!
Can't go wrong with Jacob's Ladder blocks. They will make a beautiful quilt in 2026. Must be the "teacher" part of our brains that brings us into planning mode 2 months before the new year. Me too! LOL The Exploding Star is really pretty.
Oh, Jacobs ladder is a fun one! I remember doing one in scrappy green and creams years ago.
Love your exploding star! Simple and fun.
Great use for some BROWN scraps, Diann! Best of luck on finishing the final row of your lovely Exploding Star quilt top. Such a fabulous RSC project!
How did you like working with browns? Great progress on the quarter star top!
I made a Jacobs Ladder once and I believe my grandson has it - or maybe his ex-wife? I don't know which one kept it but I know it was mentioned as being kept by one - I don't care if it was his ex I think she was more interested in quilts then he is. (and would take care of it)
