Midweek Update

I finally finished up the quilting on Masala Box over the weekend, and got the binding sewn onto the front on Monday.  Now it has been transferred to my evening slow stitching time to finish the last step of hand stitching the binding down.  There are some penguins peeking out from the binding every now and then!

Hopefully, I'll have a finish to share by the end of the week!

It's good to get something finished because I've got some new projects I want to start!  One is the Orange Peel Sew Along, hosted by Julie at The Crafty Quilter.

This one requires 25 - 5 inch low volume squares for the background and 24 charm squares for the orange peels, so I've been getting these ready.   Somewhere, in one of Julie's posts, I saw that she had made an orange peel design with Kaffe charm squares, and I happen to have a bunch of those, so I decided I'll use them up in this project, too!

The first step is to sew together the background squares,
so that's what I'm working on this week.

The other quilt project I'm planning to start is Sandra's (mmmquilts) Spring QAL, called Glowing Hearts.

Fabric requirements for this QAL are coming out Thursday,
so I'll have to make some decisions for my quilt soon.
Maybe I'll go shopping!  😘

Love that penguin peeking over the edge of the quilt. Very fun! You have some fun new projects. I'm seriously considering making Sandra's Glowing Hearts this year. It looks like a good quilt as you go project and I can use scraps (I think). So it may get added to my list for this year. Looking forward to seeing your versions.

have you decided how you will applique the melon shapes? I have done needle turn applique and I know there are other ways.

I have had my eye on the Orange Peel QAL. So far, I have put it off because I don't want to start something new with company coming for Easter (daughter and fam will be visiting for a week). After that...we will see if resistance is futile. :)

I started an orange peel project several years ago as a RSC block, but I didn't get very far. Applique and I do not seem to get along. Like everyone else, I got a kick out the the peeking penguin.

I've always wanted to make an orange peel quilt. I actually started one years ago. It was a pattern by Irene Blanck and it has an applique block in the middle -- which I almost finished. Great incentive to knock this one off my bucket list. Thanks for the links and I'll look forward to your progress too!
