I Like Thursday #431

Thursday snuck up on me this week!  I'm not sure where the time has gone, but I guess some weeks are like that.  I did finish a good book.  It's a WWII historical fiction - a genre I almost always like.  I particularly like Jennifer Ryan's books - I think I've read all of hers now.

We found a new treat that we like!  Madeleine cookies - tasty with a cup of coffee or tea.

With Joann's closing down, I needed to find a new place to get my favorite Gutermann thread from and Karen recommended Red Rock Threads.  I ended up ordering from them - several spools of Gutermann for the sewing machine and a ball of Valdani embroidery floss.  I thought the prices were good and the shipping reasonable, so I'll order from them again.  Thanks, Karen!

The gals at my mom's house just love to decorate for the holidays and the Easter decorations are up now.  Cute bunnies and eggs all over the place.  But this one is the most creative of all!

This is a hand sanitizer dispenser!

Speaking of Easter, LeeAnna's question of the week is about dyeing Easter eggs.  I always enjoyed doing that, as a kid and with my own kids.  We loved the Paas egg dyeing kits and apparently they're still around!   I remember using those invisible crayons to put wax on the egg so that the dye would show some kind of pattern.  And the little stickers and the paper "costumes" you could create characters with.

We did hide the dyed eggs, as well as
the plastic ones with candy and little prizes in them.
Always fun and good memories!

I love my Presencia 60wt thread and Red Rocks is my go-to for it. The dying of the eggs was always fun, both as a kid and with my kids. That Easter decoration at Mom's is hilarious and wonderful for the residents. Happy Thursday!

I like Red Rock too! Those cookies look good right now. What a cute little bunny, glad your Mom gets to enjoy such creativity.
I have good memories about how Mom used to get out the coffee cups (not mugs) and mix the dye in them. It was such fun.

Decorating for the holidays helps old folks keep track of time in addition to cheering them up. I loved it when they did it in rehab (and yes, I'm old!). .

Thanks for mentioning the Jennifer Ryan book! I love her books and didn't know she had a new one! So glad you found a source for your thread! I've baked a lot of Madeleines, they are time consuming but worth it! Will have to check that out!
Have a great day!

Since the closet JoAnn's was almost an hour from me, it wasn't my go to place for anything, if it's not at one of the local quilt shops I have to order. Glad you found a place to get your thread. Now that I'm starting to quilt (yes, I got the walking foot on the machine and have been practicing), I may want to invest in some other threads. We'll see how into it I get.

I'm glad you found another place to purchase your favorite thread. I too used the PAAS dye kit as a kid and as a Mom! I tried onion skin and beet dyes one year. . .the kids were not impressed! LOL

I liked the previous Jennifer Ryan books on other people in WWII, the Wedding Dress Sewing Circle, and Kitchen Front were both informative and entertaining. I'll add this one to my library list.

I admit that I like the ideas in Ryan's books but each one that I've read has had something that bothered me. Haven't tried her newest one. I used spools and spools of Gutermann from Joann's back in the day. I'm having success with Essential Thread from Connecting Threads now.

glad the thread worked out for you - you mentioned a ball of Valdani - I will need to have my daughter look at it I forgot they sold it there and I gave her a box of thread and she is needing to match one up I might have originally gotten it there. I read that book and love those cookies.

Oh yes, the paper costumes! I had forgotten about them! Thanks for the fun reminder!

Glad you found someplace to get your favorite threads. I have an old wip that calls for Valdani...I'll be getting it out again soon. Your Easter egg dyeing sounds a lot like ours. It was always fun to look for the "golden" egg and I made sure I hid one for each of my kids.

That is a great easter bunny decoration! I loved dying eggs with the kids when they were little. Now I get 2 natural green eggs =) I took a stroll through our Joann's last evening. So much is gone but they really have not lowered the prices on the fabrics much yet. I did grab a few of the embroidery flosses and a solar lantern for the back yard.

Ha! the hand sanitizer is a hoot. ooh - pretty thread. The loss of JoAnns is just adding to the current chaos.

Such memories of the Easter Season. I liked going to church too. Easter Lilies in purple foil wrappers decorated the altar and the vestibule. I like finding a new treat. The Madeleine cookies look good. Some of those RNs and LPNs and CNAs are very clever. ;) Thanks for the book recommendations. I’ve been writing them down. We ( my book club) vote on what we want to read in May.

I feel like I’ve read Ryan’s book, but I can’t find it on my read list on Goodreads. I went ahead and put it on hold with my library. We may be going to Trader Joe’s, so I’ll have to look for those cookies :-) the girls near your house certainly are creative! I love the hand sanitizer dispenser!
