I Like Thursday #173

Happy Thursday, friends, and Happy (almost!) Valentine's Day, too!  Hope you're enjoying the week!  I have some likes to share with you, joining in with LeeAnna and the rest of the "I Like Thursday" bloggers who link up at Not Afraid of Color.

I like, no actually I love my book club!  It's a small group of retired teachers who decided together after we retired that we needed a book club.  This week we met at my house.  I made some banana bread for our treat.

I love banana bread, too!

We all really liked our book for the month, Unsheltered, by Barbara Kingsolver.

It's an interesting story about two different families who live in the same falling down old house in New Jersey - one family in 1874 and the other in 2016.

I like Thriftbooks!  We ordered all the books for our group from their site for $3.99 each!  They are used, but in good condition.  Some are library editions, so they have the library cover on them.

Tuesday evening, we found a show on Acorn that we hadn't watched before, and we've been enjoying it!

"Agatha Christie's Partners in Crime", from 2015.  Jessica Raine plays one of the main characters and is an actress we've loved from "Call the Midwife," and she's very good in this show, too.

I've been keeping up with my daily embroidery and Tuesday's design was a sunflower.   I think it turned out pretty good!

Hope you're having a great week!  Click on over to LeeAnna's place for more positive posts!

Lovely list of likes. I will watch for that show. I am enjoying the Australian and Canadian mystery series on Ovation.

LOL you talked about Thriftbooks in your blog, I talked about Alibris. Banana bread sounds yummy. The local grocery store used to have those small paper bags with the handles that they put abused bananas in for banana bread. Sounds like a good book too.

That looks like a yummy spread you have there. I used to get Barbara Kingsolver books at the library for my Mom. She was an avid reader while her eyes lasted. I've bought from Thriftbooks for several years now and love them! Your embroidery is looking good!

I have read a lot of Kingsolver's books, adding that one to the find-at-the-book-sale list.

Hi Diann! Ooh, I love banana bread and rarely make it. Yum! Makes me want to stop at the grocery store on the way home to pick up some ripe bananas. Your sunflower looks fabulous and cheery. Just what's needed on this snowy morning. ~smile~ Roseanne

Mmm! Banana bread is my favorite! Well, to be honest I'm a sucker for just about any kind of bread. But banana bread especially! I haven't yet finished Call the Midwives but am enjoying what I've seen so far! Too bed we don't live closer, it just seems like we have a lot in common! :)

So many good things in this post! We just got back from vacation a few hours ago, and I have lots of blog reading to catch upon. But your blog is always a priority! Good books, good food, great stitching, LOL, what’s not to love?!? xo

Happy REAL Valentine's Day! Lol! I loved Barbara Kingsolver's "The Poisonwood Bible" so I've now put "Unsheltered" on my to-read list. Your sunflower is gorgeous & cheerful. Have a good weekend!

I am so happy you are enjoying as well as learning embroidery. True needle in hand work which is good and your stitching is lovely. Like Susie there, I loved the Poisonwood Bible. I think I wrote about Barbara in a post about how she kept her own sheep for wool as she is quite the knitter. A most interesting woman.

Such a fun list of likes. I NEED some banana bread. I haven.t made any in a long time. The house used to smell so good when I made it. I don’t know how you find time to read with that lovely hand sewing!

I had banana bread this week too! Tasty! And then the pups AHEM stole it and I didn't get any more. Alas. :) And I love Barbara Kingsolver's books, I remember discovering her many years ago when I lived in arizona, but I haven't read any of her books in a long time. Maybe I should pick up Unsheltered!
