My main scrappy placemat project for this month was finished earlier this week for the blog hop at From My Carolina Home. You can also read my post about these placemats here.
Of course, there were still bits and pieces from that original jelly roll left, so I couldn't stop there! Cutting what was left into 2.5 inch squares seemed like the way to go. Plus, there were lots of smaller leftover pieces of the light neutral ecru backgrounds that I've used all year for the Jacob's Ladder blocks that could be included in another project, too.
I made a bunch of four patches -
And ended up with... another placemat!
And look who came to dinner!
These cute little Ikea penguins with their orange beaks and feet on a turquoise background seemed perfect to back the fun fall prints.
Thank you again to Nancy at Grace and Peace Quilting
who sent me her penguin scraps!
The two strippy placemats will be sent to Carole for her Meals on Wheels donation, but this new one is staying here!

I adore that backing fabric. So cute.
The backing fabric was the perfect pairing for the leftovers of the jellyroll! What a cute placemat!
Thanks for your contribution! And of course, the penguins must stay with you!
All the placemats turned out beautifully. The scrappy 4 patch on the front with the penguins on the back is just too cute. Hope you enjoy using it this fall.
Somehow I missed that post you linked to, so I went back and read it. I love the way you made those placemats! Just seems much simpler, and wow they turned out so pretty. I'm sure you've posted about that table topper before - it is gorgeous. Those penguins - lol how cute! Nancy hinted about going to your blog to see, so now I get it!
Good for you keeping this new mat for yourself! I always think of you when I see anything penguins!!
Oh , really nice work on those placemats!! Love those adorable hand-holding penguins on yours...
I made two scrappy leftover coin strip placemat tops and it felt so GOOD to be machine stitching once again. I only stitched 15 min at a time and then took a break...so far so good...now to find backings in my orphan blocks box...hugs, Julierose
I admire how you tackle those scraps that are leftover so quickly. Four patches are always fun to make and these made the cutest placement. The plaid binding is the bomb! I l love it and the penguin backing- how adorable. I hope you are having a fabulous weekend, Diann. Keep that sewing machine humming. Hugs.
they all look good - I really like the big hexagon
Oh wow! The penguins on the back was the perfect choice for a Little Penguin Quilts placemat. The front was nice too -- *wink*
Great placemats, Diann!
My previous comment disappeared into the mists of time….
