I Like Thursday #507

Good morning!  It's that time of year when we get pretty sunrises right out our living room windows.  I loved the golden glow of this one!

This very persistent squirrel figured out how to get on our suet feeder by climbing up the trees and following the branches over to the roof of the house, and then sliding down the rope that is holding the feeder.  At first he made us laugh!  But then...

we couldn't get him to stop, no matter what we did,
so after five days of shooing him off, Mike had to finally
take the suet out and put it away.
The sad thing about that is that now the birds can't visit either!

Has anyone read this book?  It's my current read, and I can't decide what to think about it.  It's equally fascinating and frustrating!

LeeAnna's question of the week is about our favorite Halloween candy when we were kids.  I had to reach way far back into the deep dark recesses of my memory for this one!  What was that called, lol?!   I loved Baby Ruth candy bars - that was one - because my middle name is Ruth.  But then I remembered these - Sugar Babies!  And there were Sugar Daddies, too, but these little bite sized ones were the best.

Have a wonderful Thursday, friends!

My favourite Halloween candy was rockets. I think you can still buy them at this time of year. That squirrel was very persistent. Maybe you can try putting the feeder out again in a month. Gail at the cozy quilter.

Make a hole in a two liter plastic soda bottle then string the rope through the bottle.

Oh those pesky squirrels! It is frustrating isn't it. We don't have as many here in north Texas as we had in south Texas, but they are just as persistent. I just realized your house faces east, is that right? I really love your photos out your front door.
I had forgotten all about Sugar Babies - yum! We saw some old fashioned candy recently and were reminded we loved those peanut butter taffy called Peanut Butter Kisses. Milky Ways were also a favorite of mine, before they made the "fun" size.

Those squirrels will keep going until they figure it out, and you really cannot make them stop once they know what to do. Our set up works if you can do it. We have a pole in the ground with a tube baffle under the feeder. The squirrels climb the pole and then go inside the baffle, unable to get around it. It does work. Our squirrels have given up trying, and now just pick up what falls from the feeder. But you cannot blame them really, they are hungry too, and suet is a treat!

Squirrels are creative about how they can access the feeders! I haven't read that book. My grandma used to make popcorn balls or Cracker Jack for Halloween. I thought those were so good!

Would a baffle over the suet feeder help? If it's high enough from the ground that they can't jump to it.... My Dad used to joke as he kept moving the feeder a little out of reach that he was training the squirrels to jump farther. I have read so much about that book but have not read it.

that reminds me to get our bird feeders filled. Then the squirrels come of course and make a mess but if I want the birds I have to put up with the squirrels. I liked the golden glow of the sky!

Silly squirrels, silly humans to think they can outsmart the silly squirrels! Hahaha! I haven't read that book either so no help here. Tootsie Rolls, especially the larger chunkier ones, were always a big hit in our house. Have a great week!

I remember those candies! I think my favorite was the house that gave out a quarter to each kid! That was worth a good amount of penny candy at the little store in town! I liked the twix and hershey bars.... and still do =) We have a squirrel that Bear loves to chase... down the fence, up into the tree and then from branches to 4 other trees into the woods in the back yard. So funny to watch them.

Beautiful photo of your morning sky, Diann. I don't know what is more entertaining here...the squirrels getting to the bird feeders or the many ways my husband tries to keep them out. Sugar Babies was also one of my favorite candies. Thanks for the memory!
