We enjoyed our week away and now it feels good to be home. There's always so much to be done after you've been out of town for awhile. Laundry, grocery shopping, yardwork...
But I have had a little time to get back in my sewing room, and worked on an orange house for my Year in the Neighborhood project.
Home is where the heart is!
This robins have been visiting the neighborhood this month - they like to play in the water from our sprinklers. So this house was made to celebrate the robins!
Here's how the neighborhood is shaping up. I added another tree to the collection, too.
There's another new development in the neighborhood, too - actually in my backyard! We've been hearing the woodpeckers pecking away at the trees for weeks, but just went out to look at what's going on a couple days ago. We not only found a woodpecker making a nesting hole, but we think she's made a whole condo development!
Look a little closer in and you can see this little female downy woodpecker, on the lookout for intruders!

I hope those holes don't harm the trees. I know we must have woodpecker nests around here too, but our land is so forested with. underbrush, I'll never know where they are.
The neighbourhood is growing. The new woodpecker condo development …I’m sure it was noisy during construction! Gail at the cozy quilter.
The little heart block looks adorable, perfect addition to the housing development! I often wonder how a woodpeckers head survives all the pounding they do so I had to look up for the Pileated woodpeckers. Their head has lots of built in 'insulation' to protect them.

I love how your neighborhood is coming along, Diann ! and those oranges and rusts are sooo pretty, makes me want to dig out my boxes of autumn fabrics. Love them!

What a sweet house block! We see the Downies at our feeders, but they must be living in a different yard because we haven't noticed any nesting holes. We've had blue jays move in, and I think they've chased away some of the cardinals and woodpeckers we normally have.
Glad you had a nice trip! As long as the woodpeckers stay in the trees and don't decide to peck on the house siding. (Ask me how I know about this....)
such a cute little "Robin" house!! We had to put up a (fake) owl on our fence to keep the woodpeckers from boring holes in it!! They are pretty though...hugs, Julierose
May your woodpecker be satisfied with her wood condo and not decide that your house is a better fit for her needs! We had one decide the siding was "THE PLACE." What a racket she made and what a mess she made before she figured out the non-wood siding wasn't going to work! I love your robin's house!
Yikes, those are some pretty big holes the woodpecker has made. I would suspect the tree may be infested with insects. I've watched the downy woodpecker attacking my neighbors cedar siding many times. Our neighborhood is filled with old trees, so the sounds of woodpeckers ratatatting is common. I like you orange robin house. A cute addition to the neighborhood. Oh, and welcome home.

Welcome home, Diann! Another house built in the neighborhood! Pretty blocks. The woodpecker has been busy! We always had them in trees close to the farm where I grew up.
Your neighborhood is growing. And so pretty! We’ve been hearing woodpeckers too. Just after the insect in the trees, I think. We don’t have cedar siding, thank goodness! Hoping to get back into my sewing room soon. 🤞

Your robin inspired house turned out really cute. As long as Mrs. Woodpecker doesn't like to carry out her construction early in the morning, it should be fun to see the little ones come along.
