I Like Thursday #483

I love a picnic lunch!  Wherever we're on vacation, we try to find places each day to take our lunch.  In Charleston, one of the places we went was Folly Beach.  This is their fishing pier that you can walk out on.  We watched a girl reel in a small shark!  (They did throw it back in the water!)

View of the beach off the pier.  It was a popular spot!

Thanks go to Deb A. for recommending the Publix subs for lunch!  We did this a couple days in a row and they were tasty and very convenient, too.

LeeAnna's question of the week is about 60s/70s fashions this week - mini skirts, fishnet hose, halter tops?  If you knew me in real life, you would realize that I'm not into fashion and never have been very much.  But I do vaguely remember rolling up my skirt to make it shorter, after leaving the house for school in the morning, lol!

While visiting my mom yesterday, I came across this photo in her album that we were looking at.  1968 - I would have been 14.  The outfit I had on was sewn by my mom, and I recall it being one of my favorites.  Not sure you would consider the skirt to be a mini skirt, but I loved it anyway!

I had knee socks too!! 😂. Those were the days!
We usually bring a picnic lunch with us when we are on a trip. That way, we can stop whenever we want to eat and don’t have to worry about finding a restaurant.

I had a pair of orange fish net stockings. . .likely, I had those because they were in the bargain bin! My mom shopped the bargain bin!! I didn't roll my skirts. Mom and grandma made it clear that a lady while fashionable had a dress length long enough that she could raise her arms without showing her underwear! LOL What a fun place to have a picnic!

You have me hankering for a picnic lunch near a pretty beach. We used to go to Galveston Beach pretty regularly, but it is not a pretty beach at all! Haha on the 60s-70s fashions. In my senior year, I had my hair highlighted and wore a short (not mini, just short) skirt to school, and people were shocked! But my future Hubs liked it a lot - lol!

Folly Beach is our all time favorite destination. We usually reserve a long term rental on the beach and enjoy gazing out across the beach, across the ocean and , of course, the people. This is an inspirational sewing/quilting time for me too. Short trips into Charleston and the city's history, inspire quilt ideas and designs. As for fashion, I had an orange polka dot outfit and a shift style dress that I sewed around '67. Pair these two with white go-go boots and I was in style. I wore that so many times that the fabric wore out. My first pair of jeans were another favorite. I didn't sew them, but they were so fashionable.
Thank you for taking me down memory lane. I just might need to revive either the orange polka dot or shirt dress for this 70 something gal who has a youthful heart.

OMG I too rolled my skirt up after I left the house! I bet that was exciting to watch a shark being reeled in.

Lunch on the pier sounds wonderful. I had a pair of white bell bottoms in high school that I loved. Halter tops and mini dresses were not on my mom's approved list. I do remember it was the 70's when they started allowing girls to wear pants to school. It's hard to believe that was 50 years ago now!

Picnics at the beach sounds delightful to me; I have never tried a Publix sub; I will have to try one. That is a precious photo of you and your family. I rolled my skirts up too. I always get a kick out of the colors that we wore in the 70's. Have a beautiful day, Diann. Hugs.

So glad you liked the Pub subs! They are our go to when I can't think of what to make for dinner! What a fun vacation you had. I'm pretty much a jeans and t-shirt (or sweatshirt up north) kind of person. I remember the hand me down's of late 70's clothes when I was little with lots of brown and oranges. Great photo of you and your siblings.
