Stay at Home Round Robin - Round 2

Our host for this week, Kathleen McMusing, suggested double blocks for the next round of the project.  Her post includes lots of ideas, and I thought a long time about trying for some kind of double star design.  But I couldn't come up with one that would be doable within my (self-imposed) 3 inch size - the pieces would just be too small and fiddly.  So - on to the next idea - something I'm calling "Double Slice."  I played with these blocks once before, and made a small piece with them.

As you can probably imagine - you start with a square, slice it once diagonally and add a narrow strip, then slice it again through the opposite corners, and add a second narrow strip.

You can square them up straight -

Or wonky -

Which I thought was a fun look!

I haven't decided yet where these blocks will end up, but I did do the measuring and sewing needed to finish the first border from last week.

This measures 15.5 x 16.5 right now.

I might add a very narrow solid border first, and then see what border #3 brings before making any more decisions!

Linking up with Kathleen McMusing for the SAHRR Round 2,
and at Melva Loves Scraps for Sew and Tell Monday.

Tricky figuring out the block sizes for sure, Diann; but I am sure you will do it beautifully. Good choice for your next round...

You solved the prompt of double in a creative way. I agree, a small border to separate the sections would look good.

Both styles of your Double slice looks nice. I do think a small coping border would help separate the rounds.

Well done, Diann. I like the wonky version of the block. It will be interesting to see how you incorporate them into the SAHRR.

These are such fun blocks to make (they were the first ones made when I tried improv piecing). Can't wait to see how you add them in!

I love the look of the wonky double slice blocks. Your small blue & yellow piece reminded me of a tic-tac-toe game board. ;) Thanks for sharing in Sew & Tell.

My mathematical brain balks at the wonky blocks. Symmetry is my go to. I do like the fabrics that you have chosen. I also read your Hello February post. Those bunnies are so sweet. I have to dig out my own decor today.
