Getting started with Green

This week I had a chance to get out my greens and do some sorting...

These are the smallest pieces - hopefully there will be enough to make a crumb placemat.
I think this month I'll combine the dark greens and the bright greens.
Some of the others will be used when we have a light/pastel green month.

I also had some time to make one Jacob's Ladder block and pick out the colors for a second.

And then I got distracted by a "Drop Everything and Make It" project!  Older son requested some soup bowl cozies for himself and his girlfriend.  I can never turn down a request from family, so I ordered some Wrap and Zap batting, and as soon as it arrived, I got to work.  I decided to make three because I realized we could use a new one, too.

In keeping with February being green month for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge, I found a piece of this Baby Yoda/Mandalorian print on green and used it for two of the cozies.

I made some of these several years ago, but it's been awhile, so I thought I'd better find a tutorial to remind me how to do them.  I found this one at All People Quilt, and it worked.

It took me about three sewing sessions to get these made this week, but they turned out nicely, and I sent two of them off to older son this morning.  I'm so used to sewing things for guys, and rarely things for women, but he has told us that his girlfriend loves pink, so...

I made one in pink!

I know they'll get a lot of use out of them, because we certainly do!

And that was my sewing week.  How was yours?

What a great gift and you got to use "girl" fabrics. . .What a TREAT! I've been getting the center of the mystery quilt together.

I’ve made bowl cozies for everyone in the family too. I have lots of lime green/lighter green scraps but not very much dark green in my stash. I’ve got lots of pieces cut for my RSC projects but not much sewing done yet. Gail at the cozy quilter

Oh you've inspired me to try making these--I was gifted two quite a long time ago from a blogging friend and have used them constantly--I really could use to replace them--they would also make great birthday and Christmas gifts I think. thanks for the link;)))
Your greens are looking great in the block you chose, Diann

Very cute bowl cozies. And you know they'll be used and appreciated. What a nice variety of greens you have to play with.

I love your cozies! I'm going to bookmark your post to use as a guide and try to make some this year. The fabrics you used are really cute.
I like the greens you used in your Jacob's Ladder block. My greens are not very pretty. I have my nine-patch blocks ready to sew and am not enjoying how they look - lol!

Such cute fabrics in the bowl cozies. Isn't it nice when our family appreciates the craft? Love the Jacob's ladder block.

I find green a difficult color to work with -- the yellow and blue blends ... I bought a Creative Grids template for bowl cozies a couple of years ago and made a bunch for Christmas gifts. I stll have two that need the seam closed where I turned them.

I wish the bowl cozies stayed so crisp after washing. LOL! They just look so nice until they go through the wash. I just might star quilting them densely before finishing.

Bowl cozies are fun. (and I agree with Chrisknits - I wish they stayed crisp after washing.)

Great green fabric in your cozies. Jacob’s Ladder blocks make great looking quilts. I’ve been finishing up my PQ 17.3 entry. Unfortunately no green was used. I’ll have to go double time when we do light greens.

Bowl cozies should make anybody happy. Glad that Baby Yoda got to play on these. That's a great place for that fabric.
