Good morning!
We're having an elk invasion here. These two guys have been seen all over the place!
Because it was our anniversary last week, a friend sent us this sweet card. It was definitely perfect for us because we are in no way "perfect!"
I really enjoyed this book recently. It's written entirely in letters from the main character to many people. I was amazed at how you can tell a story that way!
LeeAnna's question of the week is "have we ever lived anywhere else?" I grew up in Rochester, New York. My dad worked for Kodak - everyone's dad worked for Kodak! - and Rochester is their corporate headquarters. We actually lived in Greece, a suburb of Rochester, which is right along Lake Ontario. This is the house that my parents built in 1956, when I was two, and I lived there until I graduated from high school. This is a current screen grab of the house from Google Maps - doesn't it look like a nice place?
When I graduated from high school, Kodak was building their Colorado plant and my dad transferred out here. I went to college, met Mike, and here we have been for the last 50-some years! Nowadays I don't want to live anywhere else!
Blogging friends, have you ever gotten a nasty comment on a blog post, and what did you do about it? I get spam comments sometimes and I just delete those, but this was specific to something I shared on an I Like Thursday post from a couple weeks ago and it was very nasty. And I Like Thursday posts are, by definition, happy and upbeat! Why would someone leave a nasty comment? It was not a regular reader or anyone I know - just turned up out of the blue. Although I was so tempted to reply, I did just delete it and not engage with the nastiness, but I wonder if any of you have experienced this. It certainly gives you a bad feeling! Not a feeling I care for much.

I am really sorry to hear that someone sent a nasty message. It does not reflect on you at all -- I read your blog regularly and I've never seen anything objectionable. The person who sent the message has problems in their own life and chose to project that on to you. Ignoring it and deleting it was the right choice. As we used to say in the old LiveJournal days -- Don't Feed The Troll.
I looked at that book, but I am not a fan of epistolic form. Gorgeous sunrise!
Your sunrise is so colorful! It seems like winter really brings out the best in sunrises. That is such an interesting story about where you've lived. We have moved around so much since we first got married. Sometimes I wish we had been able to stay in one place. But it has been a full life, so no complaints here. :)
It hurts my heart that you received a nasty comment Diann. You are one of the sweetest and kindest people I have "met" online, and you don't deserve that. I got a comment I didn't care for, and whoever it was chose to post as "Anonymous". But it was political and not really "nasty". You did right to delete it and move on.
Just hit the delete button and move on. Don’t engage. I get nasty or weird comments too sometimes.
On to more pleasant topics…nice house to grow up in! We had a beautiful sunset the other night. We woke up to lots of snow today…so I have declared it snow day, sew day!
We get deer and the odd fox in our neighbourhood…no elk!
Gail at the cozy quilter
The correspondant is on my TBR pile! Gail
Beautiful sunrise! I don't blame you for never leaving Colorado, it's a gorgeous place to live. I'm sorry you received a nasty comment. Your blog, your choice on how to deal with it.
What a beautiful sunrise! I've never left Oregon. . .well. . .except for travels! As far as the nasty comment. . .the delete button is the way to go and like Gail wrote, move on. Don't let one negative destroy the many positives!
My dad worked for DuPont and so did most of the dads (and some moms) in our little Nashville suburb. One didn't dare misbehave around town or it would get back to your dad!
I am so sorry that you received a nasty comment. You don't deserve that. You are always so uplifting and positive. I think you handled it well. At least that is what I would do too.
Elk are big animals!
I've not gotten nasty blog comments, but I have gotten a few on youtube (who knew guinea pigs could bring out the worst in people?) If they're bland and trying to get a rise out of me I may just leave them out there (with no response). But if they could be upsetting to other people, I delete them. I chalk it up to a bitter person or some kid being a punk. Sorry you had to deal with that.
I haven't read anything on your blog that was offensive - I have gotten several nasty comments over the years one was downright awful and of course it was because I showed my coffee mug for Joe Biden/Kamala Harris for president and VIP some years ago - I got the nastiest comment ever from a now deceased quilter . Her comment was deleted and although I got one more nasty comment from her I never heard from her again. Another comment came just last year from someone else - again about politics - I try to never mention politics but it is becoming harder through the year. Another person complained once that I had some words spelled wrong that spell checker didn't catch and punctuation was wrong -- my goodness I never said I was an English major LOL -
What I don't get is we all have our opinions and it is our blog so if someone doesn't like it don't read it - right?
I’m sorry too that you received a “nasty comment”’! That would upset me too! I think deleting is the best response. And if you can block them, even better. But I don’t know if that’s a possibility.
Wow, those elk are big when up close and personal. I hope The Correspondent will be a book club selection. If not, I’ll read it on my own. I’ve been seeing good reviews.
First thought on the elk was the tv show Northern Exposure.. but that was a moose I think. Pretty sunrise. I tend to get spam lately but only one or two semi nasty comments I ignored and deleted. Probably same person Karen mentioned. I mark it as spam, delete and wipe from my mind. My blog, my choice on what to share. Pretty house to grow up in. I probably would not have left Vermont if not for Greg moving us in 2011.
The elk are some very large creatures to have wondering the neighborhood. Though, they are nice to see. I'm sorry about the nasty comment. People are just mean. I think you handled it correctly by deleting and not engaging. I hear from YouTubers often that people leave mean comments. I don't what they gain from it.
