I Like Thursday #441

Happy Thursday, friends!  It's a day to celebrate because I have baby cucumbers!

When things actually grow around here,
it often feels like a miracle!

I finished a good book this week.  This one is for our July book club duscussion.  I have to admit that I am usually more of a fiction reader than nonfiction - give me a good murder mystery page turner anytime - but this story is a good one!  Who knew donkeys were such interesting animals?!

We're trying something new here - reusable zip-lock bags made from silicone.  They just arrived the other day, so I'm still get started using them.  I wanted to reduce our use of single use plastic.  I will report back!

LeeAnna's question of the week is about summer activities and sports - do we have a favorite?   If you've been a regular visitor here, you probably already know my answer to that is golf.   In fact, I enjoy (and have played) golf year round!

My friend group here (lots of retired teachers) started a Tuesday morning golf group many years ago, and I look forward to it every week.  We're not very good, but we laugh about it and have a good time.  It's good exercise, too!

Golf can really be played in any attire - my usual is shorts and a tee shirt, lol! -  but you do need special equipment.  Mike likes to make golf clubs.  Components are ordered from various places and then he puts them together with special tape and glue.  It's kind of like our quilting hobby - not inexpensive, but fun and useful!  This is a putter he made me a few years ago.

Have a great week - hope it includes your favorite summer activity!

Belonging to a book club helps us to read something we may not have read otherwise. I lead a book club and we read a different genre each month. Mystery, biography, historical fiction, epistolary, children’s literature, indigenous author, black author…we just discussed “84 Charing Cross Road”.
Your tiny cucumber is so cute! I’m sure it will grow quickly! Nice to have a group of friends who enjoy a common activity. Gail at the cozy quilter

I miss golf. We live in a golfing community with 5 courses but I cannot stand, much less swing a club these days. Something to put on my goals list!

Congrats on the little pickle :D We used to play golf, and Hubs used to make clubs too! We've been watching more golf on TV lately and have actually started talking about playing again. But I doubt it will happen. We miss the walking and being on the fairways!

Congrats on your baby cucumber! I can't relate to the golf, tried it once and it wasn't my thing. I have been eyeing those silicone bags but I just don't trust "reviews" of products anymore. I look forward to hearing what you think! Sending hugs!

I knew you liked to golf but I didn't know your hubby made clubs! I will be just as excited about my cuc's as you are when I see one! I have three plants in a pot on the deck this year and they are looking way better than those in the garden.

let us know how you like the reusable bags, I presume you must wash them. I never played golf other than mini and I'm not good that. My cucumber plant is covered in blossoms but yet there are no cucumbers growing - I hate when that happens as there are so many blossoms!!

Good luck with the baby cucumbers. I hope they grow nice and big for you. The resealable bags are interesting. I'm all about resusable food storage. It is good to have a physical activity, like golf, to offset all the sitting around we do as quilters. You are fortunate your hubby makes clubs.

Sounds like a very interesting book so I went ahead and saved it to my Library list. I'm a little behind on my reading so it'll be a little while, I finished Winter Garden by Kristin Hannah and I loved it. It definitely was difficult to read in places but that's history. I've never attempted golf but it's in the family. Mom & Dad used to play several times a week and my brother and his children play often too. My best bet is putt-putt!

Happy Thursday, Diann. Great start on your cukes; they will be running out of your ears here soon and I know you will enjoy them. It is so wonderful that you are able to enjoy golf with your friends ; it is a great outlet. Have a wonderful day. Hugs.

My DIL wants to get a donkey. They are interesting creatures. Good for you to laugh while golfing. Laughing makes everything better!
