I really liked finishing up this little fall quilt for the table this week! It was one of those Drop Everything and Make It projects that I just had to make.
I combined some fun fall prints with a few little brown scraps
and a fussy cut sunflower for the center.
The pattern came from this book - copyright 1993!
And how about that brown dot for the binding?!
I don't sew with browns very much, but I sure enjoyed this one!

In other likes this week, I enjoyed cooking dinner with my son. We made a favorite recipe of his for carnitas made in the Ninja pot. It calls for fresh cilantro, which I love. I like that it comes in a little plastic container, which makes it easy to store when there's some left.
About the only thing left growing in our garden is Mike's jalapeno plant. I say that it's Mike's because I literally don't touch it - these little peppers are hot! Even he only uses a little bit of a pepper at a time. I haven't grown any herbs myself, but maybe I should try that next year.
I love it when I discover that a favorite series has two books I haven't read yet! And they were both available at the same time, so I can read one right after the other.
I'm almost done with the first book, and will be able to go right on to the next!

Very nice fall table topper! Sometimes, old books and patterns can provide just the right inspiration. I have a couple of small wall hangings I made recently that I need to get quilted. I put out my fall decorations this week. Pumpkins are a prominent theme! Gail at the Cozy Quilter.
Sweet little project! And the back fabric is perfect. Herbs are easy to grow. I buy them as small plants at the grocery. Some of them are perennial which makes it easy or the next growing season.
That table topper is cute. I planted a bell pepper that produced what suspiciously looks like a hot pepper... I'll have be careful cutting/eating that. Happy reading!

So much to like here, Diann. You know I love that little topper with its fussy cut flower. You and your son are making me want to get a Ninja. You guys have really made some nice meals with his.
I (still) have that book. And I (still) haven't made a single project from it. But those now-nearly-vintage Martingale books continue to inspire me.
I think I used to have that book! When we buy cilantro it comes in big bunches. It is hard to use it all up.
Hi Diann! Oh, that table topper turned out so well. I might have to pull out my copy of that pattern book and make some gems. 1993 was a good year - I know we made Sunbonnet Sue from that book. Mike's jalapeno plant looks VERY happy! I love jalapenos and use them often, but have never tried to grow them. Ooh, and I am behind in the Women's Murder Club - I think I'm going to start over at the beginning and work my way up to date. I love a good series of books. {{Hugs}} ~smile~ Roseanne
I love cilantro! I get it in bunches at Aldi and tend to go through it. I was making cilantro lime rice to go with my carnita meat last week and some fresh pico with cilantro on top. Yummy for lunches! I really need to plant some herbs for the fall.... I just need to remember to water it. Hope you have a wonderful week and love how your little topper came out.
I needed cilatro today, didn't have any. Used some jalepeno slices and burnt my tongue!
I somehow missed both of those Patterson titles, too, but caught up with them earlier this summer, and like you, I read them back to back. One of the things I miss most, not working in the library, is seeing what new books are coming out. It's fun that you and your son cook together.

You know, I don't believe I have read a James Patterson book! I love cilantro too; I've tried to grow it several years running but it seems to go to see so quickly. Your fall quilt is lovely, and what a treat for me to see Rainbow Neighbourhood again! That quilt makes me happy every time I see one!
I love your fall quilt - the colors and prints are great! Cilantro is one of my favorite things. My Mom always hated it, said it smelled like a stinkbug - lol! My Hubs and grands do not care for it either, but my DIL loves it. I guess you love it or hate it.
My son makes the best fried jalapenos. He opens the jalapenos, cuts out the white part and the seeds, then slices them into about 1/8 inch pieces and sautes them in some olive oil with just a little salt. He lets them get crispy, and I absolutely LOVE them! Sometime the jalapenos are so hot he gets tears in his eyes while he's prepping and frying. When he surprised me on Mother's Day, he brought along some jalapenos and made them just for me. Made me bawl!

YUM! That jalapeno plant looks good to me. My brother grows them too with great success. Somehow I can't get any pepper plant to grow for me. Rats! I like the same series of books too!
