Last Friday, I went with a couple of friends to a quilt show put on by the Ft. Collins Modern Quilt Guild. I shared one quilt photo over the weekend, but saved a couple more for today. I thought this one at the entrance to the show was really stunning!
I love the flow of color in this quilt!
The blocks were paper-pieced to make the strip triangles within the squares.
A few were full squares.
I could gave taken a ton more photos, but I just took one more of this crumb quilt. We could vote for our favorite, and this one got my vote.
All those tiny crumb blocks - I just love them!
These were not sewn by color - they had all the colors.
We thought the pink sashing was interesting - I probably wouldn't use that in a quilt of my own, but it did seem to bring out some of the other colors quite a bit.

I read a book this week that I just loved! It's my book club's July pick for discussion, and I think it's another good one for us. The really interesting thing about this book is that it's set in a time and place I really knew nothing about - Iran in the 1950s. There is a current day storyline, too, that eventually connects all the different parts together.
And, to continue this month's I Like Thursday theme, a favorite ice cream memory of growing up is that we sometimes made our own ice cream! My family went camping a lot and this was a fun thing to do while camping. I say fun now, but I do remember it was hard work! It took a lot of muscle to crank that thing, because of course there was no electricity when we were tent camping! The homemade ice cream was pretty tasty, though.
I picked this photo off of Google because I'm pretty sure our ice cream maker looked something like this. My dad bought everything at Sears, so I'm sure the one we owned came from Sears.
We never had much rain in April - you know, like "April Showers bring May Flowers," but May and this first week of June have been very wet in Colorado. So it brought June flowers!

That color gradation quilt is pretty amazing, and the crumb quilt - wow. I'm not sure I'd have the patience to make one that size! Handcranking was hard work, but the end result was so delicious. Thanks for the heads up on the book - your group picks some very interesting selections!
Both quilts are really cool. I'm a cool color person, so I like the color graded one best. I don't remember making home made ice cream, but my Grandmother was a fan of Blue Bunny ice cream, so that's what we had when we visited over the summer.
we made ice cream now and then but not often I guess it was a lot of work. The quilts from the shows are always so interesting to see
I love going to quilt shows. There is always so much inspiration! I thought the pink sashing was a little odd too but it worked. My compliments on your flowers. The snapdragons look so pretty in all their gorgeous colors!
So interesting that pink was a neutral color! It worked well with those tiny crumb blocks. I would have voted for that one as well! I wouldn't have thought of it; but, sure could see my friend who loves anything and everything pink melting to a puddle viewing it!

Snap dragons blooming already, wow! We do need a dose or rain, been dry for 3 weeks! Glad you got to enjoy a quilt show. Our Minnesota one is on next week I think, I am not going up to it this year, 3 hr. drive. Thanks for sharing photos from the Ft. Collins show.
Both quilts were lovely, but the crumb quilt stole my heart. I agree with the quilter, I’ll probably not outlive my scraps, either ! My first crumb quilt was a multi color one. With lime green sashing! Homemade ice cream is a great memory, and Sears!!
I love the write up's of this quilt and the one on Saturday. So fun but so true! I have a nephew who lives in Ft. Collins! I remember doing ice cream in a bag with the girls at scouts. Surprisingly, most of them came out good with just a few getting the salt mixed in. Fun times.

That first quilt is really cool. Crumb quilts are fun. That little ice cream maker is adorable. I'll need to break out the big one for Family Weekend this year.
Speaking of Iran -- after my divorce I moved back to my hometown and was able to "housesit" a house owned by an Iranian family who had brought their sons to the US to avoid military service in the '70s. Their wealth was in rugs and there was a stack of them in the basement. We (the Iranian sons and I) had to share the only refrigerator in the the kitchen so I told them my very young sons wouldn't know what was off limits unless they put a "flag" on it. One day I opened the fridge and there was a bottle of wine in it with a flag and a note that said, "There is no flag on this. Enjoy!"
I just love that first quilt with the blues and greens! It's amazing! Thank you for sharing these inspirational quilts! That crumb quilt! Wow! We had a similar ice cream maker when I was a kid, and boy it was a lot of work! Have a great weekend!
