Getting a little bit done...

It has been a bit of a crazy week here with not a lot of sewing machine time, but I have gotten a little bit done.

Two (of four planned) purple Split 9 Patches are made.  I've been trying to make two darker ones and two lighter in the previous colors - for purple I may not have that much of a choice.

Here are all the blocks I've made so far in a different layout than I've tried before.

I had one more zipper block to finish up for purple month, for a total of three.

These blocks are going to make a fun quilt!

A little progress was made on the second house block for the Rainbow Neighbourhood QAL.  I really liked Sandra's advice on trying out some choices for different sections of the block.   This is going to be a green-themed house!

So far, I have the quilt block completed and the sky/roof sections.

I did get some happy mail this week!  I was the winner of a prize for participating in the Stay at Home Round Robin, hosted by Quilting Gail and friends, earlier this year.  My prize is a Prairie Spirit Alpaca wool pressing mat.  So exciting - I've never owned one of these!

Thank you, Prairie Spirit Alpacas and
SAHRR hosts!

I have a wool pressing mat and I really like it! Nice prize! Nice purple blocks. I did not have a ton of red-violet scraps to work with but managed to get my blocks done. I like the way you arranged your split nine patches blocks. Gail at the Cozy Quilter

I have always been going to try that layout for the split nine patches, I certainly have enough scraps to do it, LOL. Your zipper blocks are coming along nicely also. Congrats on winning the Alpaca mat.

Congratulations on the pressing mat - now you need a cat or two around to use them as scratching mats - lol! I really like your Split 9 Patches, they make such a pretty pattern when put together, especially with those pretty, scrappy colors. Do you just make nine patches, cut them diagonally, then switch them and sew them together?

You are going to LOVE your Prairie Spirit Alpacas wool mat. I love mine, especially for small piecing; the fabrics stay so nice and flat as they soak up the heat from the wool. I'm glad you like my tip for laying out pieces of potential parts for the houses! Love how your next one is shaping up. I also really like the zipper blocks! I have a gazillion 2.5" squares...oh dear I feel another squirrel running around in my brain! I made the split 9-patch in that new-to-you layout several years ago as an RSC project. Dayna claimed it as her quilt!

I like the split nine patch block and the little stars. My wool mat gets a lot of use out of it and have not regretted getting it.

Those split nines are looking great! I've wondered about how those mats work. Hope next week is a little calmer for you.

Such pretty blocks and your projects are all moving along nicely, Diann. I wonder do you recommend your win, the wool mat? I don't have one either.

I'm loving all your scrappy blocks! I especially like the split nine patch, which reminded me that I made one for a block exchange many moons ago, and really liked the possibilities with it. So fun!

Split nine patches is a nice block, and I like how you have put four together. Lucky you winning the pressing mat, hope it is as good as the adverts say. They are rather expensive to buy here.

You're going to love the wool pressing mat, especially since you make so many small blocks. I use mine most of the time unless I'm pressing long seams. Your blocks are all coming along nicely.

I like your split 9 patches. And, I particularly like your layout. Congrats on a great win! I like my wool mat although I admit it spends some time off the ironing board when I am working on a big piece of fabric. Enjoy.
