I Like Thursday #315

Baby, it's going to be cold outside today!  At least that what we're expecting for Thursday morning as I write this on Wednesday.  I was just looking at what the prediction is for 9 am Thursday which is when I take my mom for her weekly hair appointment: -9 degrees!  Do you think I will be taking her out?

Earlier in the week I was able to meet a friend for a walk and she snapped a picture of us for her Be Real app.  Have you heard of Be Real?  I hadn't, but it sounds kind of fun!

"Every day at a different time, everyone is notified simultaneously to capture and share a Photo in 2 Minutes."

She must have gotten a notification to take a picture right then!

Do you have favorite Christmas traditions that you participate in every year?  Ours have changed a lot through the years as our kids have grown and moved away,  but there are lots of good memories associated with Christmas over the years.

Taking a picture in front of the tree - check out younger son's expression on his face!  What was that about?

I think we were getting ready to go to the school's holiday music program that evening - another fun tradition I always loved.
I remember Kevin (younger son) complaining about how hot he was in that sweater!

Every year for many years, I bought a Christmas candle from Current (remember them?) and we lit it every night at dinner through the 25th.

which I haven't thought to look for before this.
Maybe for next year?!

Since our boys have been out on their own, our tradition has been to have them come home for a family weekend sometime in December.   We cook together, watch movies, and play a lot of games - sometimes new ones, sometimes old favorites.  The weather wants to mess up our plans this year, but just in case we still are able to get together, I have a new game that friends have recommended.

Mike and I haven't tried it yet, but hope to this weekend!

I'm stitching a bowtie block every day this month.  Here's the one for December 21st.  I thought the snowflakes would be appropriate!

And a sweet book I enjoyed this week:

A young woman in England faces a big change in her life
and works through all the challenges to figure out what she wants to do.
Of course, a library is involved, and I enjoy book and library themed stories.

Hope you're having an enjoyable week, and
staying warm!

Thanks for visiting on "I Like Thursday," hosted by LeeAnna at Not Afraid of Color.

I remember Current, but don't recall ever seeing those candles -- like an Advent calendar. You will LOVE TTR! It's easy to play and only mildly challenging so you can have conversation while playing. My AR family has all of the expansion games. Some of them are more challenging and not as fun as the original

I hope your boys make it home. It's -5 this morning and the temps are supposed to fall more throughout the day, we didn't get much snow last night. You'll find me in the sewing room today and then making soup for supper tonight.

That is just plain cold! I'd love to hear how ticket to ride is to play. Hope everyone is able to travel safely to you this year. Love the snowflake bow tie.

The cold definitely has its own ideas about the upcoming holidays. I hope your boys can make it home. I love bow tie blocks, but I’ve never made them. I may need to change that.

Happy Holidays!

I am vaguely remembering something named Current but don't remember what it was. love the candles. I hope you will see both of your sons this month as it is winding down for sure. I would tell mom her appointment is cancelled - LOL I wouldn't want to go out in that weather - other than checking the mailbox over the next two days I have no intention of going outside - well maybe to feed the birds and that is it but I hope they stay hidden for the next two days and shelter like everyone else

I used to order a lot from Current, did you know they are still in business? Found them online after reading your post. I stopped ordering when I began making my own cards. We traditionally watch several Christmas movies though the week before the holiday, and have prime rib on Christmas day.

I still order periodically from Current. Sometimes, boxes of cards and stickers. I purchased an Internet Password Book a few years ago, so now I get emails this time of year. I’m a pushover for stationery stuff, pens, stickers, cards etc. I do miss school programs and bigger family gatherings. But big celebrations are much more work for the hostess!
I’ll be interested to see what you think of Ticket to Ride.. always interested in new board/ card games.
Hope your boys make it home! Still lots of roads closed In Wyoming and SD.

Hi Diann! Nice picture of you and your friend. I've never heard of Be Real but what a fun prompt! Oh, I used to love Current!! I still have some wrapping paper from them, and I used to order pretty checks. They are still in business. I recently ordered a school years photo album from them for each of our littles! Ooh, that bowtie block is just perfect for the 21st! Lovely snowflakes and best of all, you don't have to shovel them. Merry Christmas to you and your family! {{Hugs}} ~smile~ Roseanne

awe your sons! the book looks good, and I remember current! they had great items! the catalogue was fun to look thru too. I like the tradition of a pic each year in front of the tree. I should be easy to see this year with my graying hair.
cold here this morning, -11 with power out, oy but it's back now I hope it holds. I rushed and charged the ipad when it came back and am visiting a few people...

The cold and wind and snow hasn't reached us yet. Coming in tomorrow. I used to order from Current regularly and now that Carole and others reported they are still operating, I'm going to check them out. I buy most of my cards at the dollar stores now, but they had lots of other neat things.
I guess I'd be more concerned about road conditions in regards to taking your Mom to her appt. I bet her weekly hair appt is very important to her. Bundle her up. She'll be in the car most of the time anyway. But then maybe she won't want to go.

I've never heard of Be Real. What an interesting way to stay in touch with friends. That Christmas photo is a hoot. I vaguely remember those Christmas candle. Ticket to Ride is fun. Enjoy!

ROFL at the boys' expression in front of the tree! What a great tradition! So sorry the weather is dreadful, we are getting it this weekend. I forgot all about Christmas candles, so glad you posted that! Wishing you a safe (and more warm) Christmas! Merry day to you my friend! Hugs!

My Mom didn't like to get out in weather like that, but her desire to have her hair "fixed" was pretty strong - lol! I hope your boys are able to make it home and thanks for the board game tip - looks like fun! Loved reading about your traditions. I miss school and church programs with our kids in them, and I miss seeing lots of presents under the tree. And wrapping them at midnight on Christmas Eve! :)

That's a great photo of the two of you. I like your snuggly cap!
I think your Christmas Penguin ornament is finished perfectly, btw. And
beautiful Bloom Baskets getting its quilting lines too. I love the bowties. Mom made a baby quilt with that design for every baby she knew. I should really be stitching some too in remembrance of her, thanks for the inspiration, Diann. I find everything so different since my girls are grown...but I still try to enjoy the season. Hope you and Mike are snug as bugs and enjoy it all too.

How fun to read your family Christmas traditions. Like yours our has changed over the years. I think playing games would be a fun addition. I hope that you and your family have a wonderful Christmas and wish your boys safe travels. Merry Christmas.

I joined I Like Thursday this week, but I forgot to tell LeeAnna - please do come visit my blog post if you have time! Belated Merry Christmas! I haven't heard of Be Real but it sounds interesting! In our family, we love to play games of all kinds. Just today, we played computer Euchre, a card game - two of us here in Montana and two in Ohio! Technology can be such a blessing sometimes!
