I Like Thursday #263

Welcome!  I'm joining in with "I Like Thursday" hosted by LeeAnna at Not Afraid of Color. Come see what I found to like this past week!

We took a little road trip for Thanksgiving to see our kids for a few days.  It's a trip across the plains of eastern Colorado and western Nebraska and Kansas.  This landscape isn't for everyone, but we love that you can see for miles!

In tiny Oberlin, Kansas, population 1788, we found this adorable quilt shop.  We've gone through this town many times, but I never knew it was there.

Right inside the front door I spied this!

If they had had a kit, or even just the pattern, you know I would have snarfed it right up!  But alas, the last one had been sold just the day or two before.

Instead I came home with a wool applique kit and a free Christmas stocking kit, too.  I'll never run out of things to work on, even if they aren't penguins!

Our youngest son lives in Goodland, Kansas, also a small town, but with many neat amenities.  On the day after Thanksgiving, this beautiful historical home (owned by the county historical society) had been decorated for Christmas and was open to the public.

This was my favorite room.  Can you tell why?

There was a decorated Christmas tree in every room of the house!

So now we're home, and the calendar has turned to December.  The year is flying by.  Hope you're having a great week!

That penguin quilt is so "you." I lived in Kansas for a year or two and, believe me, seeing for miles gets boring driving to work every day. The fun part is driving far toward the west and suddenly seeing your mountains pop up on the horizon.

oh too bad the penguin quilt kit was gone it was meant for you! I love the bare scenery sometimes of the plains states glad you got to see your sons -- do they both live in the same area or just met up so you all could see each other.

The plains aren't for everyone, but I do like seeing the horizon. It makes the sky so big! I'm glad you got time with your family and got a little shopping in, too!

I understand about driving in “miles and miles of nothing but miles and miles of nothing!” Some of WY is like that, and SD. I’m glad you found a little quilt shop. Did you get the name of the pattern. Maybe you could purchase it elsewhere. It’s so cute. And the mansion all ready for Christmas. Fun!

That IS a cute little shop. Too bad about the penguin kit! I like the wide open spaces too. So glad the weather cooperated for your trip.

That sounds like a far drive but of course, interesting and worth it for the family at the end. Imagine spying that little shop and with such a pretty penguin hanging. I bet you could find that pattern online.
I just love touring old homes and often watch youtube videos of such. Yes, quilts were certainly a necessary item in them too even for the dolls. Glad you two are home safe and sound!

Hi Diann! Oh, that historical house looks so welcoming. Cool quilt shop - too darn bad about the penguin pattern and/or kit. I would have snapped that up as well. How cute are they with their festive hats on?!! Gosh, that snowman kit sure has a friendly face. Looks like you found some rewards for all of your travels. {{Hugs}} ~smile~ Roseanne

How fun to get a visit with family. Cute quilt shop, and I love Kansas and Nebraska. I love small towns though. The house all decorated looks like it would be a fun tour.

Looks like a fun trip. Wow - so much flat land. Sometimes you forget how big the world is. What a fun quilt!
