Block #6 for Melva's Little House sew-along came out last Thursday, so I worked on that over the weekend. The center is called the Snowflake block because book 6 in the series is The Long Winter. It's made with lots of little half square triangles, and I was very careful to lay them out and sew them together in the correct orientation!
Then the log cabin surround was added, strip by strip.
And we're up to six blocks now! Looking at all the blocks together, I'm seeing that I used more orange in the first three (top blocks) and more turquoise in the second three. I'll have to add some more orange in block 4!
The step of adding the log cabin strips to the center block needs lots of leader/enders in between, so I sewed sashing and borders onto the Spool Love blocks and turned them into a little mini quilt top. I'm working on a backing for it now.

Your Snowflake block looks amazing, Diann. I worked on mine today as well paying close attention to the orientation. I love the color palette you are using. The plaid in this block is scrumptious. Have a beautiful day. Hugs.
It would be very easy to turn an hst the wrong way in that snowflake block! Your block collection is growing in such a pretty way. Nice spool mini quilt too. I have not touched my sewing machine this week but I have done lots of hand stitching. Gail at the cozy quilter
Your snowflake block sure resembles a snowflake! Your blocks--some with turquoise and some with orange outer logs sure look great as an ensemble! Your spool mini quilt is sweet!
Love the snowflake block, good thing you had another small project to use for your leader/enders.
Lovely snowflake block, Dian;))) those centers look so small--challenging. Love the orange with that teal ; Nice work
hugs, Julierose
I love your blue snowflake block - your colors are so pretty. I had to look at my block several times to make sure the orientation was right. What a lovely little spool quilt!
Great snowflake block. I like how this is coming along.
Your Little House sew along blocks are looking good, love your color palette for those. The spool mini turned out really cute.
it is looking good I could see me messing up on which way they are turned!
The log cabin surrounds for the sampler blocks make it such an interesting design. I like turquoise-y blue and polka dots, too!

Those log cabin blocks look fantastic! I have to admit I wasn't too sure when you first started them but they are really shaping up. Don't you just love the "bonus" quilt you get from leaders & enders? Me too!
The Little House blocks look so good in those fabrics, Diann. And I absolutely love the little Spools quilt.
Your blocks are coming along so beautifully! And your Spool mini quilt is just so cute!
Your blocks are so pretty! This will be so wonderful when you get it done. Thanks for sharing on my weekly show and tell, Wednesday Wait Loss.
