And the Table Scraps Challenge...
March has been purple month for the RSC, and I started with these purples on my table.
While working on my regularly scheduled blocks (patchwork hearts and zipper blocks), I also made a crumb slab that measures about 8 x 12. Since the Table Scraps Challenge for March includes using purple and having birds be a part of the project, I decided to add some penguins on purple to my crumb block.
I think those cats might be after them, though!
With a lining piece, some batting, and a purple zipper, it was pretty easy to turn this slab into a simple pouch!
After sewing up, this ended up about 5.5 x 7.
Perfect for containing all the little things that fall to the bottom of my tote bag.
I was also able to finish up a table mat started with 2.5 inch squares earlier this week. It was a fun little project - there are purples in it and even some birds - owls! Do you see them?
I used a piece from a favorite fat quarter for the backing, and a gray dot leftover from the penguin tote bag for the binding..
And we're already using this on the table between our comfy chairs. It will get spilled on and collect crumbs, but it's all good because it's made with scraps!

Of course your challenge piece needed penguins...it couldn't be more appropriate. Well done on the pouch AND the table topper. Hope you have a nice weekend!

ReplyDeleteQuite the productive PURPLE month, Diann! Here's hoping those penguins are safe from the pesky cats on your zipper pouch. Enjoy that new scrappy table mat with those sweet owls, too!
ReplyDeleteOf course you added penguins! They are so cute, I hope the kitties don't get them. ;) That is a beautiful table cover and a sweet pouch!
ReplyDeleteBoth projects are cute! Great job on the zipper pouch, I tend to shy away from zippers. :)
ReplyDeleteVery fun purple bag. You can't go wrong with penguins and cats! Congrats on both fishes.
ReplyDeleteYour little bag is a cutie! Penguins spruce everything up. . .just the thought of their movement on land makes me smile! Two great finishes and a few more scraps into useable items. . .great wins!!!
ReplyDeleteGreat projects! Sometimes a theme can bring inspiration - purple and penguins obviously got your creative juices flowing :-)
ReplyDeleteCrumb slabs can be turned into all kinds of useful things. And you are right, scrappy table toppers can be washed till they need to be disposed of. They actually last pretty well in my opinion! You can’t have too many zippered pouches!
ReplyDeleteWhat a cute little bag! You made great use of the crumb slab. I like that scrappy table topper too. I need to make a couple for the little table next to my chair.
ReplyDeleteLooks like a busy purple month for you. The purple pouch is so cute! Love the scrappy table topper too. Great ways using scraps.
