I've used them for quite a few projects, including this little pillow.
When my quilt group decided to do a fall block swap at our November meeting, I knew those squares would be perfect for making some maple leaf blocks!
I learned this particular block from Carole's tutorial here at From My Carolina Home, and have used it many times.
These blocks are 6.5 inches, and for the swap I need 10.5 inch blocks, so I'm adding some sashing to each block, like this -
You can see at the top of the picture that I still have lots of those 3 inch squares to use up!
During my evening slow stitching time, I finished up a Gail Pan design that I've been working on recently. It's called "Little Blue House."
It's stitched with a variegated blue thread, and I'll add a blue border and binding like you see in the picture from the book, Patchwork Loves Embroidery.
Time to decide on another slow stitching project to work on!

Love your leaves with the cornerstones, very pretty fabrics.
Great use of those lovely fall colors! And good solution to make your blocks the appropriate size.
I can visualize your leaves falling from the trees right now, just the perfect fabric for them. I recognize a few of those prints from my own stash!
Beautiful fall blocks, and clever way to use those squares ;)
The fall leaves are gorgeous and I just love your little stitchery.
Oh what a great variety of pretty projects you have going all from those 3 inch squares. Happy Stitching!
Sewing with autumn colors and prints is just irresistible this time of year, isn't it? Your leaves look great :)
The squares are a pretty fall color combination and I love the maple leaf idea using them. You are working your way through the stack...one project at a time! Are they multiplying?!
Those maple leaf blocks are just lovely. That's a sweet embroidery project, too.
So pretty!
I do love that blue variegated thread... the blue house sampler is lovely!
I have a bit of that sunflower fabric in that top photo. I love that blue house sampler, and those maple leaves are great!
Love those squares and the blocks are adorable! Your stitching is making me itch to stitch myself!
Love those maple leaf blocks you made, I look forward to seeing the progress on the little blue house, Gail Pan is one of my favorite embroidery pattern designers.
What a cute embroidery and love the maple leaves. They remind me of 'home'.
Great way to use up those squares, the framed leaves look great. Very pretty embroidery project. Looking forward to seeing what you pull out next.
You come up with the cutest little projects. Your leaves are so pretty. Great idea adding those borders to enlarge the block! Your little stitching project is cute too.
It must feel great to put some of those pretty Autumn squares to good use.
Perfect season to work on maple leaf blocks especially with your autumn-colored fabrics. The pieced square pillow is a perfect fall accessory!
That's a great idea for bringing those maple leaves up to code! 8)
And I've been enjoying seeing your embroidery projects. Gail Pan designs speak to me as well!
Those leaf blocks are so pretty - especially in those fall colored scraps. Thanks for sharing with Oh Scrap!
all those fall quilt projects are so lovely
Oooh! I love your Gail Pan stitchery! I'm really in love with the floss you used -- may I ask what it was? You did a great job on the "Little Blue House"! Your maple leaf blocks are wonderful, too. Great colors!! :)
Your pillow is darling! I really like the leaf blocks with the added border. What fun to play with all those pretty little squares.
Your embroidery is so pretty! I bought the variegated blue thread for my Snow Sampler. It has been awhile since I embroidered, and I'm hoping I can pick it up again easily!
