We've been watching Season 9 of Doc Martin via Acorn TV, which we can get through the local library. I love this show! It never fails to make us laugh.
And then there's Season 3 of "The Crown," on Netflix. The new, older actors are doing a great job. I enjoy reading about the real, historical events while watching the drama.
Meanwhile, I am also listening to the audiobook version of The Gown, a historical fiction story of the women who embroidered and sewed Queen (then still a princess) Elizabeth's wedding gown in 1947. I loved reading the book back in September, but my book club is discussing it at our December get together, so I thought this would be a good way to remind myself of the characters and storyline.
I've enjoyed listening to the British reader of the book, Marisa Calin, who does a wonderful job with the different kinds of accents. Soon, I'm sure I'll be speaking in a British accent myself! :)
In other likes this week, I've enjoyed finishing up my little Christmas squirrel.
I think one of the things that draws me to handwork like embroidery and big stitch quilting lately is the textures they create. I'm going to be one of those little old ladies in the home that needs a fidget blanket to keep herself occupied!
And I love my new wool socks. Found a package of these at Costco, which I was so happy about because I wore holes in last year's batch. They are warm, comfy, and fun to wear!
Hope you're finding lots to like this week! Join me at Not Afraid of Color for lots more I Like Thursday posts.

Good morning Diann! Love your likes! I was so happy to see the Crown back on! I'm savoring it slowly because there is going to be very little on tv during the next few months. I agree with the texture idea on hand sewing this time of year. It just is fun to have that additional bling on textiles! Have a wonderful week!
I love wool sock! I started to watch the Crown a couple years ago but never got back to it. I like Doc Martin and I'm not sure if I watched all seasons it was available on Netflix maybe when I watched it.
I must be missing out and will have to check out the Crown and Doc Martin. Those look like comfy socks! Thanks for sharing your likes!
I love your little squirrel. Every time I see something you've hand-stitched I want to do big stitches on my projects.
When my husband and I watch British shows, we make each other laugh by trying to say things in fake accents. Sometimes the accents on the shows are so thick we have to play back a scene to "interpret". Guess we should turn on captioning!
I love Doc Martin, really hilarious show!! I'm enjoying The Crown too.
Hi Diann! Love those wool socks - they look nice and toasty yet not too heavy. Your Christmas squirrel project is so darn cute. Love all the different embroidery symbols and they look just perfect with those Christmas fabrics. I have The Gown on hold at the library - it sure looks like a good book to me. Thanks for sharing the title! ~smile~ Roseanne
oooo new wool socks are so comfy. I love those Brit shows too, but haven't seen the latest Crown version. Makes sense to have older actors but I was vexed when I heard the others were replaced. I will pause an episode to go research the actual historical events myself.
When I watch Outlander I begin to speak with Scottish accents, and listening to Lady's #1 detective agency always starts a Botswana accent!!!

Sounds like it's starting to get really cold there. Love those Brit shows thaat I can get. I don't have Acorn but PBS is generous with their series.
Doc Martin is a great show. We've been watching the latest season of The Crown. I need to stretch it out a bit, so I can make it last (it's not working - haha). I'm off to write a quilt ILT post - I forgot!
I want to watch the Crown - haven't gotten around to it. I heard there was another season of Doc Martin. Wool socks are good stuff!
Awesome likes this week. I love Doc Martin, can't remember what season I left off. I have been watching Hinterland. I love toasty socks!
Your Christmas squirrel is so beautiful! I love it! Must get working on mine!
I love Doc Martin and would love the watch this season... will get it from the library.
And also the Crown... love it on Netflix!
I love the Doc Martin series, but there are never enough of them!!
Oh, you are quick, I was going to stitch that Christmas mug rug too but haven’t even started yet. I keep finding other things to make first!
Nice socks! Don’t you find most socks have too much elastic in the tops!! I suppose the answer is to start knitting!
Hugs,
Barbara xx
Sounds like a very relaxed week with some fun historical perspectives thrown in.
