That was my first year participating in the Rainbow Scrap Challenge, and our colors that month were brown with pink accents, or maybe it was the other way around - anyway, I was experimenting with four patches, and made these eight 8 inch blocks.
Even though I liked them at the time (and made tons of other blocks in all the colors throughout that year), I never could figure out a way to put them all together into a quilt design that I liked. So, they have been in my orphan block pile ever since.
But when I read Bernie's post about her Spread the Love, Quilting for Kids charity event, I thought I might be able to sew up a doll quilt for A Doll Like Me using these blocks.
And here's what I came up with -
Needing a center square for nine blocks to make an approximately 24 inch square quilt, I appliqued a pink, polka dot heart in there to add a little sweetness!
Some Kona Crimson seemed like the perfect match for the binding, and pulled all the blocks together.
A label -
And posing with a doll my mom made for me many, many years ago - she is Jo from Little Women!
I hope Amy at A Doll Like Me will have the perfect doll for this quilt!
Linking up with SoScrappy for ScrapHappy Saturday - even though it's not purple, this is still an RSC project!

great use for the blocks. Some members of the guild I belong to make doll quilts that are matched up with dolls and given out on Christmas Eve by Santa who is escorted by our fire department to the home of each child on his list.
Perfect use for those orphan blocks. That little quilt will bring lots of smiles and comfort!
Great way to use your blocks. Your centre has brought them together very nicely!
What a sweet quilt and post! Great use for orphan blocks. :)
What a wonderful project, and you had it almost done at the start with the orphan blocks!
it looks great and someone will be happy
You did great Diann! Your quilt will make a child smile. Great cause and your quilt is lovely.
Beautiful blocks, and a sweet quilt!
First I gasped-surely you don't have UFO's from that long ago, LOL. You put them to good use, I think they have just been waiting for this specific project.
That sweet center heart just brings those blocks all together!
Great use for your orphan blocks!
Such a sweet little quilt for a great cause! The heart center is just perfect. Love the shot with your dolls, too :)
Very cute! Love the addition of the heart in the middle. What a great way to find a new home for some orphan blocks.
Lovely use for those Orphan blocks!!
Wonderful way to use up your orphan blocks!
Cute!
I saw that same post and got out some orphans to make one but found enough orphans for a whole quilt for kids so may forego a doll quilt.
Diann, this is so sweet. I love the picture with the doll. <3
Thanks so much for making this for A Doll Like Me!!
What a sweet thing to use a heart to pull these blocks together in a quilt. Jo looks very pleased to be able to pose with the quilt. You might not have known what to do with the blocks when you made them, but they were waiting for such a time as this!
