I Like Thursday #192

Happy Thursday!  As I do every week, I'm joining in with LeeAnna and friends at Not Afraid of Color for "I Like Thursday" where we share all the positive things we've enjoyed recently.

I like playing with scraps!  (I bet you knew that already!)  These pretty blue batik scraps leftover from Beautiful Blue have been calling to me this week.

There are strips and chunks and some bigger pieces, too.
I've been sewing some of the smaller squares and rectangles together
to make a blue improv slab of some kind.
Maybe it will turn into something like a mug rug or placemat.

Of course, some of these scraps will work perfectly for the 4 patches I've been making, like this:

But then, I saw Bonnie Hunter's new Leader and Ender Challenge, and I thought some of these scraps could work for those blocks, too!

Oops, did I just start a new project?

I love fresh green beans, and they're even better when they come out of your own garden!  I've picked seven so far!  :)

They were delicious steamed with a little butter, salt, and pepper!

I really liked this book, which was recommended by Karen of Karen Quilts, etc.  Thanks, Karen!

I thought it was a really interesting story and well-written, too - a young college student interviews a dying Vietnam Veteran about his life and uncovers an old mystery.

Flowers are starting to bloom in my little front garden - the kind that come back every year for me - marigolds and sweet alyssum.

And finally, I loved this comic from the other day!

So true!  I never did like roller coasters...

Enjoy the rest of your week, everyone!

  1. I do not like rollercoasters either... being scared is just not my idea of fun! I think I'll be starting a new project too with the new leaser-ender block idea!

  3. I like your BH block, I had not see that one before. Green beans yum, we have been having lettuce from out garden for a few weeks now, and the raspberries are just starting. I just can't get marigolds to grow from seed and I have never had any come back the next year from the plants I bought.

  9. I had some marigolds self-seed this year, too. Of course, they didn't pop up exactly where I would have planted them, but when I tried to move a few, they didn't survive the heat. You certainly jumped right into Bonnie's new L&E. I may do a few but I'm not sure I want to start a new project until I finish up some UFO's and it's too hot to sew right now.

  10. Hi Diann! I have to say I love a good rollercoaster but I sure haven't like these last four months. I'm ready to get off! All of your blue scraps look so fun! Did you just start a new project?!! My sister, who is a huge blue fan, would love to see that first picture with all the different scraps, shades, and tones. ~smile~ Roseanne

  13. Funny, I saw the blue scraps and thought - she should do Bonnie Hunter's Leader Ender thing - great minds, huh? I have never liked rollercoasters either. Your green beans remind me of sitting on our porch as a kid, snapping beans with my mother.

  15. I love roller coasters! But I probably don't have the courage to get on one now. ;) Loving your new project. I hope you get a bunch more green beans. We only had one "mess" of them because the rabbits ate most of the young plants.

  17. I saw Bonnie's new leader and ender block too. I have the scraps for it, but I so don't need another project. It will be fun to watch your version develop.

  18. Let's see .... I love marigolds & alyssum too, both so reliable. I love roller coasters as long as they don't go backwards. Up & over is perfectly OK with me! Lol! I also saw BH's new leaders & enders project and will be jumping in. I plan on making the larger 6" blocks. Actually I thought about going even larger and drafting it up 8" but probably not. I have two sewing machines so my other leaders & enders is her Free Pattern Split 9-Patch. It sits by the machine that I don't piece a lot on. Will be doing her new one on my main piecer! Was that clear? OMG, I'm a mess! Lol! Have a great 4th of July!
