I finished up our light blue month sewing up scraps of blue in every shade from purple to light aqua. So far, 12 crumb blocks have appeared in the 7.5 inch-ish range. I'll trim them to 6.5 inch squares for the candy blocks.
Do you think I can get 20 total (so eight more blocks) out of these scraps? They appear to be never-ending!
The other accomplishment this week has been getting to an almost-a-quilt-top with the Bloom baskets. I've taken my time putting these together because I'm not particularly experienced with on point settings and didn't want to turn anything wrong! Looks like I'm on the right track here!
Would you guys recommend I sew those two corner triangles
before or after I sew the two long seams?
Onward to October!
I would really like to finish this quilt, the Full Stop Sampler! I have a recipient in mind for it, and it's been hanging around in quilt top form for way too long. Just need the backing fabric!

It's good to see your projects! I love the idea of the candy blocks but that basket on point is wonderful! Good job! The full stop sampler looks great! Can't wait to see it finished! Have a great weekend Diann!
ReplyDeleteBlooms is looking great! I usually sew the corner triangles last; not sure if there is a method to my madness, tho.
ReplyDeleteI love how your September crumb blocks came together...so neat! Nice work on all your projects...hugs [in the rain] Julierose
ReplyDeleteYou are making nice progress on your bloom baskets, I rarely do on point quilts so I don't have any advice on that.
ReplyDeleteWow, such great projects! You are just so productive, love the basket quilt, so pretty. I have no idea which would be better as far as sewing the next row ends first or ends last.
ReplyDeletea very do-able list if projects! and YES! I think you will get 20 more crumb blocks!
ReplyDeleteI bet you can make eight more blocks out of those scraps. The candy blocks are cute. I know your Full Stop quilt will be finished to show off soon since it has a recipient. I still can't believe I finished mine already. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteGetting a start on crumbs! A good way to tackle the scrap chaos. I took you advice and bought paper plates to help organize mine in the future.
ReplyDeleteI don't have any advice on the corner triangles. The only quilt I made on the diagonal like that was a pattern by Cynthia from Quilting is More Fun than Housework. So if she sees your post, she may have some advice. I don't remember how but her pattern went well for me.
Oh! I have Full Stop in a box. Guess I've got lots of sewing to do!
Love your crumb blocks and how you have made them into candy blocks. Your basket quilt is so colorful! Well done. I don't do a lot of on point quilts but I believe I put the corners on last.
ReplyDeleteYou're just sewing along there on wonderful projects. On point tops just need to be laid out or on the design wall and then great care taken when you take a row to the machine to sew. In this case, I would put the corner triangle on after the long seams are sewn. There are occasions when you would just go ahead and stitch it at the end of the row as its done.
ReplyDeleteHow fun to use scraps for candy blocks, Diana. Oh yes, I am sure you will reach the 8 blocks you need with those scraps, you know... something happens and the scraps never end, LOL.
ReplyDeleteYour basket quilt is lovely. Lookig forward to seeing how you decide to finish it, as I don't have any suggestion.
definitely sew the corners on last; makes it easier to trim and square your quilt.
ReplyDeletemy Full Stop is pin basted; i need to get to mine, too! why do we find it so easy to procrastinate on some projects?
i have a HUGE pile of crumb blocks- i really need to start getting (all my RSC) blocks into tops! it's that time of year...
so much fun going on there - I look forward to seeing them all finished
ReplyDeleteYour basket quilt is so pretty! I sew the last corners on after the long row seams. The corner triangles need to slightly overlap both of the long seams. Good luck with the crumb blocks, looks like plenty of scraps. Of course they multiply when you're not looking!
ReplyDeleteEverything looks perfect, you seem to get so much done, so envious!
ReplyDeleteI have a mind to do some candy blocks next year as an RSC project. Your Bloom quilt is so close to completion. Look at you go! Sew the triangles last. I don't remember seeing anyone sewing the triangles before the "row" is attached to the quilt. Enjoy! ;^)
ReplyDeleteYes I think you can get a few more blocks from your blues! The basket blocks look so pretty. When I did an on-point mini quilt, I sewed the triangles on last.
ReplyDeleteGosh, did you pull blue scraps from somewhere else. . .that little basket looks like it is almost as full as it was when you started??? How does that happen as I notice it happening to me too. I love your basket quilt. I'd sew the triangle on first so that I would treat that section as one row. I'm in the minority though! I love your full stop sampler!!
ReplyDeletelove your scrap buffet... I'll take a dish of aqua please
ReplyDeleteBest of luck on your Crumb quest, Diann! I'm really looking forward to that almost-a-quilt-top reveal. It's going to be such a lovely quilt!
ReplyDeleteit all looks good!!
ReplyDeleteI really like the idea of the candy blocks!! what fun!!
and... yes... you can probably get 40 since you set a goal haha!!!
