To-Do Tuesday #86

I missed last week's To-Do Tuesday because my mom was arriving in town, but after a very busy week, things are starting to settle in.  I still don't have as much sewing time as I would like, but there's been a little bit the last couple days.

First of all, what was on my last to-do list?

  • Finish up the asterisk row for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge 2021 sampler. ✔  Yes, I did get that done!

  • And I wanted to make sure I had plenty of hand stitching work prepped for while my mom was staying at our house, and I did do that as well.  I worked on the Harmony QAL hand-piecing project.  You can read about my progress on that quilt in my Sunday post HERE
So, for this week, and my new normal - needing to spend time with my mom and help her with lots of things - here's what I'm thinking:

  • My goal is to sew 15 minutes a day.  I used to do this when I was still working, and I got a lot done that way.  Plus it helps my mental health!   😉  I started this Sunday and have achieved my 15 minutes for two days in a row already.  Whoop whoop!
I'm working on blocks for Sandra's QAL at mmmquilts, Follow Your Own Path.  15 minutes is just enough to cut pieces for one block, or sew one block together.

My dark orange is looking florescent, but I promise you, it isn't!
Once you've made the first block, it's pretty easy to make more,
so I'll just keep going from here!

Joining in with Chris and friends at Chrisknits to share my to-do list for the week.

  1. So glad your mom is getting settled into town! It will take a while to get everything settled but I know you will get your sewing time in your new schedule! Your projects look great! Hugs and stay well!

  2. When do you think your Mom will be able to move into her new place? I think your goal of 15 minutes is perfect. Love the fabrics for your arrows.

  3. Happy to know you had managed well and found some time to relax doing hand stitching. Also it was a great ideia start with 15 minutes a day. This works for me. It is surprising to know how much will be done by the end of the week, and your new block is beautifully done. Happy new week, Diann.

  5. once your mom gets settled into her new place you will find you have more time - unless you are planning to be with her every day - but once she gets used to her new place I wouldn't think she would expect to see you daily would she - is there more family in the area to take turns visiting?

  6. I think it is very important for you to have your sewing time even if it isn't as much as you like. We all think it is therapy of sorts. Maybe next week you'll be able to double your time as your mom gets settled. Did you guys get her furniture in her apartment?

  7. Looks like you were still able to sew some and help your mom. We all make adjustments as our lives change. Things will settle soon.
The, At Least 15 Minutes, really does work. I didn’t get my arrows started! A “squirrel” hopped in when my quilter got my donation quilt finished and I needed to bind it. I love love love your colors!

  8. I'm glad you are incorporating a 15-minute/day sewing. It will be a nice break from all the other things going on for you right now. I had fabrics chosen for Follow Your Path, only to find I didn't have enough, so I need to take another look at my stash today.

  9. Your first block turned out great, Diann! I had SEW many other items on my To Do List that I haven't even chosen fabrics, so as with most QALs, I'm behind before I begin. :o((

  10. Your blocks look great! I am so far behind on my sewing. 15 minutes a day is a great goal - I may need to try that.

  12. Carving out time is the key to success. Certainly doesn't mean it has to be hours & hours. Every little bit helps ... yes, mentally too! We're getting ready to take a trip so a lot of my time is spent getting all fronts ready here for that and then I'll be gone so handwork will be in order. I always try to remind myself that, even if I can't get in all the sewing I'd like, I'm very lucky to still have my Mom with me. Bet you feel the same way too!
