It's been a little bit of this and a little bit of that all week long at my house. You can tell by looking at my design wall!
Maybe it was the sewing machine drama on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. It made me really glad that I enjoy hand-piecing! So I finished up another hand-pieced scrappy trips block in yellow.
But then I set up my backup sewing machine and while I was getting used to it again, I played with these Chandelier Bead blocks. These have been on my "want to try" list for a long time. I found a tutorial for them at a blog called Stitchin Therapy, but they are really very simple.
I played with a few tiny wonky stars for the next border of the Stay at Home Round Robin. These are fun, but I still have a long way to go!

Quilting is more fun than Housework for Oh Scrap!
Finally, I sashed and bordered the four tulips I appliqued a few weeks ago. I think that sashing fabric is my new favorite floral print! Pink, purple, yellow, and tulips - perfect!
On the other side of this folded piece it says it's by Patrick Lose Studios for RJR Fabrics.
I'll spend some time this afternoon layering and prepping this mini quilt for hand quilting. It measures just about 20 inches square.

P.S. My sewing machine drama will hopefully be over by next week at this time! The quilt shop owner (where I bought the machine) will be fixing my two year old Pfaff for me as soon as the parts come in. Yippee!
Sorry about the sewing machine drama. I'm always glad to have a backup when my Elna is in the shop. Happy stitching!
ReplyDeleteYou've got some fun projects in the works. So glad you are going to get the machine fixed, it just doesn't seem right that it's just 2 years old and you need that expensive of a repair. The wonky stars are pretty fun, those are really going to add some sparkle to your SAHRR. Happy stitching this weekend.
ReplyDeleteWhat a pretty design wall -- so cheery & bright with all the pink and yellow with teal thrown in for good measure! So happy you'll have your machine back soon. I can totally understand the joy of having handwork at the ready too!
ReplyDeletePS I misspoke when I told you that the Irish Courthouse blocks were not chain pieced -- they are!
I love your projects! You are getting so much done! So glad you have your back up and that your local machine store will repair your machine. I think it's really upsetting that it brok in 2 years!!! I really do love the tulip wallhanging, so perfect for spring!!! I like the chandelier bead piece. I've been seeing that on the blogs lately and may have to do one later this year. Have a safe and happy weekend!
ReplyDeleteglad everything was settled on the sewing machine - you have a lot of projects going on right now and they are all interesting pieces!
ReplyDeleteYay for fixing the sewing machine! It's no fun to be without one, especially in the winter. I love the chandelier beads and the trip around the world, and your tulips have me longing for spring. It's coming soon, I hope!
ReplyDeleteYour wonky stars just sparkle! That are going to be fabulous on your SAHRR! Love the sashings on your applique tulips, the selvage is pretty cool too!
ReplyDeleteThat floral fabric is perfect for the tulips! Love your design wall and all the activity, in spite of your sewing machine hiccup! I have not done one yellow thing all month, so this weekend will be a busy one. :)
ReplyDeleteYour progress is looking good, nice to be able to carry on even with sewing machine fits.
ReplyDeleteSuch a happy design wall, Diann. Good luck with your machine repair!
ReplyDeleteSo many wonderful projects in the works... love the happy design wall photo!
ReplyDeleteBeing able to hand sew is a blessing when your machine is having issues. So many happy and colorful blocks on your design wall! Looks like plenty to keep you busy until the parts come in.
ReplyDeleteI really like those Chandelier Bead blocks - and wonky stars are so fun!
ReplyDeleteI enjoy seeing your design wall and all the happy fabrics playing there! Such good news about your machine - woohoo! Patrick Lose has some gorgeous fabric. I have a little purple fabric scrap of his that I'm really trying to mete out, since I don't think it's easy to find anymore. Today I need to finish my last border for RR, and I'm seriosly wanting to just play.
ReplyDeleteI made a bunch of chandelier blocks several years ago and never put them together. Of course, that doesn't make them unique as there are several other RSC projects awaiting completion. Hope the sewing machine repair doesn't take to long. It's the sign of a dedicated shop owner, that she is willing to take on the repair to keep your business.

Your design wall looks pretty, Diann. Sorry about your sewing machine, but glad you have a project for hand piecing.
ReplyDeleteAdorable wonky stars, love the colours.
ReplyDeleteSo glad the machine drama will be over next week. Love the little flower quilt and the fabric choices for the trip blocks.
ReplyDeleteI love your SAHRR! The wonky stars are gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteHere's hoping all your machine problems will be solved seamlessly!
So many great projects!
ReplyDeleteYou have so many pretty things going on Diann! Glad the machine drama didn’t slow you down.

Chandelier blocks are on my must try list too, perhaps next year.
ReplyDeleteQuite an eclectic design wall! So glad you are able to get the machine repaired.
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry you're having trouble with your Pfaff! I hope things will be fixed soon. It is such a great idea to have a backup machine. Love the colors on your design wall, especially the Round Robin. Good luck this week!
ReplyDeleteOh, I love all the happy colors on your design wall!
ReplyDeleteYour design wall is a delight to behold!
ReplyDeleteYes to all your projects, Diann. I must have missed that tulip pattern along the way, went back through your posts but couldn't find it. Did you design it yourself? Sorry if I'm repeating myself in asking. I love them and that fabric is perfect! I also like those chandelier blocks. Nifty. So much happy stitching going on in your sewing room!
ReplyDeleteDiann, machine drama is never good! I'm glad your experience is now waiting for the part to arrive. I am impressed with all the color and fun blocks you created during the drama! Well done! I like all of your design wall. Those tulips rock!
ReplyDeleteSo sorry about the sewing machine drama. Your hand stitched blocks are really pretty. I know I will never, ever make the wonky stars blocks. I just can't stomach them not being symmetric. I do like the fabrics you used for them. Your tulip quilt is so pretty. I like the sashing fabric.
ReplyDeleteSo many pretty projects on your design wall. Very nice scrap blocks. I especially liked the beautiful tulip blocks. I do not think I have seen this design before. :-)
ReplyDeleteHi,
ReplyDeleteYou've got some great projects going. Love the Tulips.
Have a great day!
Your wonky stars caught my attention, they just sparkle! Loving your busy design wall.
ReplyDeleteLove your wonky stars! What a great bunch of projects you have going! Hope your machine issues get sorted out quickly. Happy stitching!
ReplyDeleteYou've got some lovely projects on your design wall. Hopefully your sewing machine gets working again soon, although you might find that you quite enjoy playing with your backup one :)
ReplyDeleteI LOVE your design wall with all those pretties smiling at you! How pretty it looks. I would want all those pretties to stay there a while. Your scrappy trips are joyous, but then everything is, really. LOVE those tulips. Just perfect for spring that is just around your corner.
ReplyDeleteYour SAHRR is turning out so cool. I love the addition of the wonky stars. Thanks for linking up with Oh Scrap!
ReplyDeleteI've seen several variations on those bead blocks over the last year and I've liked them all. They remind me of the beads in the doorways in the 70s.
ReplyDeleteSewing machine drama here too. It quit working in January right in the middle of FMQ. Third time in the shop within 9 months. Finally decided it is not worth the cost to fix once again. Evidently I sew too much and wear out parts. Did some research on machines so have one coming tomorrow I think. I also have an old Janome backup. AND I'm going to unearth my old Sears Kenmore and start sewing with that too. AND I'm going to unearth my husband's grandmother's old treadle (1885) and fix that up and figure out how to use it. Good luck with your drama!!
What a bright and happy design wall. I love all your projects in the works. I hope you have your regular sewing machine back and running well soon ... :) Pat
ReplyDeleteAs usual your design wall is like a smorgasbord of eye candy. Like an all you can eat buffet - something for everyone in all colors and all shapes. Kudos to you, Diann. Have a great weekend!
