Sunrise on a frigid Monday morning this week - minus 10 degrees!
Chilly, but beautiful!
I got some bad news about my two year old Pfaff today - it will cost almost as much to fix it as I paid for it, so guess what I decided. 🙄 I brought it home, and got out my older (and tiny!) Janome. I'm a lucky girl to have a backup machine!
I'm also a lucky girl to have a husband who says, "We'll find you another one!" 💕
I guess maybe it's also a good thing I enjoy different kinds of hand stitching these days!
Did you know it's National Embroidery Month? Crabapple Hill Studios celebrates this month with a free stitch-along that you can find here at their website. I downloaded the pattern and instructions, and I just got started working on a few of the small designs. I'm thinking of trying to make these into bookmarks for friends.

ReplyDeleteI thought Elnas were sturdier than that! Honestly, my favorite machine to sew on is my Singer 301. Made in the 50s with gears and no electronics. There is nothing to break though it’s a straight stitch only. I have $$$ electronic machines but they are so much more finicky.

ReplyDeleteI love my babylock but the first one that I got (won) started to give me a lot of problems and with this year of covid I didn't want to travel to get the machine fixed - the closet place is 1 1/2 hours from me so seeing as I didn't pay for that one I bought another a step up in quality and had it shipped to me and really like it but the throat is a little small for if you do much quilting. You will find something! I will bring in the one I won to see if I can get it fixed when covid goes away

I didn't know it was national embroidery month, but I've been doing a fair amount of embroidery so now I know I'm seasonally appropriate! I love your little peace embroidery! Stay warm!
ReplyDeleteBummer about the Pfaff issue. I would not be a happy camper if that happened to me. Yes, its always good to have a backup machine or three. I have two Janomes, the Horizon and a little one for classes and retreats. Stay warm! I'm ready for spring myself.
ReplyDeleteWhile you're looking at new machines look for one with a longer/bigger throat. My Horizon has an 11 inch throat and even though I don't do a lot of actual quilting on it, I LOVE it for everything else that I do.
ReplyDeleteIt did occur to me yesterday, while we were chatting, that it is pretty cool that you enjoy hand piecing so much. Even if you didn't have a back up machine, you could still do some quilting. That was a comforting thought. Your little inchie is cute!
ReplyDeleteBummer about the machine. I'd be very unhappy if a new machine only lasted two years. There are a number of bloggers who have done machine reviews, so do a little poking around the internet before you decide what to buy next.

Your Round Robin block is looking glorious, Diann. You have much on your to do list. Yes, you do have a wonderful hubby! Was that Mike's photo of your house...very nice and as you say chilly but beautiful. I'm finding the air so fresh and crisp. It sucks to have machine problems but machine shopping will be a fun thing. Happy stitching on that very cute smaller machine!

ReplyDeleteSad news about your machine! I don’t have a recommendation, but I do like my Bernina, it’s 18 years old though, I probably should be prepared to replace it!

ReplyDeleteBeautiful sun rise...we've been having cold days this week too. Sorry to hear about your sewing machine. Thankfully you had a back up. Mine is broken and haven't taken to the shop. I do mostly hand sewing now a days. I really enjoy it. Love your Peace embroidery...so pretty. Have a great day!

ReplyDeleteSEW sorry about your machine, Diann!! The problem with the NEW Pfaff machines is that they are no longer made in Germany. From what I understand, they are now just glorified Singer sewing machines. It's very sad, as the brand name once stood for superior quality.

TWO YEARS????? What the heck! My Pfaff is about 15-20 years old and still going strong but my sewing machine shop did tell me a few years ago that they had stopped carrying Pfaff because the machines weren't made as well. So glad you have a back-up! Thanks for embroidery downloadables tip! I love your little flower! Have a safe and happy day!
ReplyDeleteWow, to have to give up on a machine only 2 years old is terrible!! Your hubby is a keeper, for sure. At least you do have a backup until you can find a new (or new-to-you) machine.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry about the machine. That just doesn't seem right as it's only 2 yeas old. Hope you can find a new one that holds together much longer than that. That sunrise is beautiful. We've had some pretty ones, but I'm too much of a whimp to get out in the cold to get good photos. Hopefully you've seen a bit of a warm up.
