Happy last day of April, friends! Hope you are finding good things to do and enjoy right where you are.
I like that it is really and truly Spring here in Colorado now. We've been able to sit out on our backporch and enjoy the backyard views!
Mike was trying to capture the sun coming through my new spinner the other day with a close-up.
I love this group of special people. These are many of the guys Mike served in the Navy with in the late 60s/early 70s. We get together with them, and the wives who can come, every two years. This photo was taken at the Vietnam Memorial in Washington, DC, in May of 2018. Today we should have been meeting them all in Boston for our 2020 reunion, but the coronavirus changed all that, as it has changed so many things for everyone right now.
Today, we're missing this group so much, but we are hoping to reschedule this trip for a year from now!
This week I had the chance to bake some Chocolate Chip Banana Bread, and it was yummy! I promise we didn't eat it all - I gave the big loaf to a neighbor. But Mike and I have enjoyed a slice or two each day with morning coffee.
I had fun finishing up my Heart of the Home mini, pattern from Twiggy and Opal. I had to share the back of it, too - I fussy cut just the right piece for it!
I love this, and I'm ready to make another one for a friend!
The penguins at the Shedd Aquarium in Chicago have been entertaining us recently. Their keepers are letting them explore the aquarium since there aren't any visitors coming in right now. You can visit their website, HERE, or like the Aquarium on Facebook, and every now and then a little video of a penguin or two wandering the aquarium will be available to watch.
And just to leave you with a little laugh - I enjoyed this one this week!

Great list of likes. LOL the John Travolt meme. Love your wind spinner. Nice to finally see spring. My friends in Nova Scotia awoke a several inches of snow yesterday.
ReplyDeleteGroan on the John Travolta joke.. lol. Love your backyard. :) The house block turned out so cute. I also adore penguins and just might pop over to the website to watch them. That's too bad about the navy reunion; we've had three gospel concerts either cancelled or postponed - will be so glad when this is all over.. in the meantime, stay safe.
ReplyDeleteThat little Heart of the Home is just precious, and the back is fussy-cut perfection. Mike did a nice job on the spinner photo. Maybe you need to capture that in a mini quilt. That looks like a great group of folks with a very special bond - hopefully next year.
ReplyDeleteYour banana bread looks delish! I made dairy-free banana bread for my vegan granddaughter last month, and I was prepared not to like it; but it was fantastic! I used my favorite recipe and subbed applesauce for the egg and water plus a little vinegar for the buttermilk. I actually couldn't tell the difference. Yours looks so good I might add some chocolate chips next time.
I hadn't seen the John Travolta meme - cute. I loved Saturday Night Fever and can still start dancing to the music (not very well with all the aches and pains lol)
ReplyDeleteyou are the second to post banana chocolate chip recipe it must mean I should make some too
So sad all the fun events everyone is missing out on, but keeping safe is the #1 thing!
ReplyDeleteOh that Travolta joke is à good’un! I should tell it somehow to my neighbour who posts a joke of the day at the end of her driveway on a sign for all of us walkers to read and smile. Love your heart of the home mini and that sun spinner is gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteOh that was funny about John Travolta. I have to tell you that my husband & I were also supposed to go to a military-based reunion this year. We also meet every other year and 2020 was the year we were to meet in New Orleans the last weekend of March. Nope, not for us either. It has tentatively been rescheduled for the end of Sept. We'll see ... Love your garden view too. It's springtime here in the St. Louis area too but more wet than dry so far. Looking forward to May Flowers!
ReplyDeleteOh my John Travolta...so many good jokes just now including the one with the loaf of bread with bananas stuck all over it. I guess banana bread has never been so popular. I love it and make it regularly here esp. when I find discounted bananas at the grocery which I take a sign. But when will I get to go to a grocery store again I wonder.
ReplyDeleteSorry you are missing that reunion which is so special. Fingers crossed for next time.
Lovely back garden and so cared for!
Your little mini is so sweet, Diann. And you are right...that back piece is perfect.
omg, lol, John Travolt-ing!
ReplyDeleteyum on the banana bread. What do you have to do to bake here in the high altitude? I still haven't tried to.
The light in the spinner...very nice... cropped it could turn into a really cool quilt... I liked your first line, there are so many things to like!
thanks, LeeAnna
Hi Diann! Oh! Your sun catcher or spinner is SO pretty. Just seeing that in my yard would definitely make me smile. With all the rain and gray days we've been having, that would be such a bright spot! Shoot to not being able to gather with Mike's Navy pals. I sure hope that you can do so sooner than later - a year from now would be perfect. Your baking looks so good it makes my mouth water. I just want to bake and bake and bake . . . and then give it to the littles. Well, truthfully I want to eat it all but cannot. Your Home mini is adorable and those penguins in the window!! Adorbs. Ooh, I'll check out the link you shared from the Shedd Aquarium! Thanks - I love watching them. You two take care, please. {{Hugs}} ~smile~ Roseanne
ReplyDeleteWhat fun likes this week - I like that colorful spinner in your yard, and I always like penguins! Travolta is stayin' alive - hahaha! I hope you can touch base with your group of friends via technology, even though in person is always better!
ReplyDeleteI know you are happy to get to be outside now that spring is here. Here in Kentucky, we have been outside everyday starting with the last week of March. We spend much of our time working in the yard and getting projects done. On rainy or cool days, I like to spend my time sewing and quilting.
ReplyDeleteOooooo! I love your colorful spinner - I do believe my backyard needs one! :)
ReplyDeleteYour mini quilt is lovely - as are all your projects! I love the play on words re: John Travolta! :) You made me smile! Take good care!
Oh, great likes - spring, and colorful whirligigs and good people and MMMMM.... chocolate chip banana bread! And I'm stayin' alive, too! LOL
ReplyDeleteThis virus is changing everything. I hope it's behind us soon. It's so nice to see you have Spring. It's still cold here. I'm waiting for the weather to improve soon. Your banana breads look great! I love the way the house smells after baking. I love the spinner too!!
ReplyDeleteI like your spinner. I don't always get all my garden art out every year. We're still waiting for warmer temps to arrive. The flowers are blooming but it's just been too cold, windy and rainy to do much outside. We were supposed to go to Nashville in August for the National Convention of the American Political Item Collectors. The show hasn't been cancelled yet, but we've decided it's too risky to go. Hope Mike's recuperation is going well.

I am sorry you couldn't get to see your friends this year. I know those kinds of reunions mean so much! Your choc. chip bread made me hungry for that :) I love your home block, love the backing too! Humor has been what has helped my husband and I these days, Loved that John T meme and we've been watching the penguins too :) Stay well and hugs!
ReplyDeleteLots of things to like in spite of the things we can't do because of the virus this year. Love your mini! I've seen a few videos of the penguins, those have been fun. Have a wonderful weekend.
