Thanks, Katie!
I've made 20 of these fun blocks now. I really love them!
I did also manage to pull out my Scrappy Sprouts project this week which is an ongoing Rainbow Scrap Challenge project started in 2018. This picture was taken on March 31, the last time I looked at it.
Ideas are starting to come along for the top part of it.
Yesterday I finished up the bottom Grassy Green border.
I've made four Dresden Sunflower blocks for the top section. I'm wondering, though, if I'd be happier with piecing that section with a variety of blocks, rather than just a yardage of the blue sky fabric with the sunflowers appliqued on. I think I want more texture and interesting things to look at!
Butterflies, maybe?
What about some Birds in the Air blocks in that section? These are just the pieces cut for one block, but you get the idea.
Two or three of these might work!
You can see that this is a "design as I go" project! But it's moving forward!
Looking forward to seeing what everyone has been working on this week over at Soscrappy for ScrapHappy Saturday!
Yes! I'll crank up the ole laptop this afternoon and drag out a photo of something similar that I did. I even quilted some flying geese into the sky.
ReplyDeleteI think I agree with you that the top needs something besides the flowers. What about appliqueing butterflies, dragon flies-just thinking out loud!
ReplyDeletewonderful - I enjoy watching you design the next steps
ReplyDeleteall of the projects look so good! if you don't want to do butterflies and insects what about some clouds?
ReplyDeleteI like the birds in the air, with the same blue as background so just the birds pop out like your little butterfly. Great idea and the quilt is so pretty. Good that you worked on it again!

Thanks for sharing your Tiny Tuesday blocks. I have a couple that need the setting pieces added and the spinner block to finish. I did not think I would like the tiny blocks, but I am loving them.
ReplyDeleteYour spinning star is beautiful! It's so fun to see how different fabric choices totally change the feel of a block.
ReplyDeleteYou could also use a multitude of blues and create a giant scrappy slab for the top and then work in the Birds in the Air block and your Dresden blocks. Lots of possibilities!
ReplyDeleteYour Tiny Tuesday blocks are looking wonderful. The gray for setting them really gives them a wow factor. For the blue background, why not piece different shades of blue 2.5” squares to give the sky area some depth and interest? The little butterfly(ies) are a great idea, and I love the sun, too! I think the flying geese shapes might not have meaning to the average viewer, whereas butterflies are so readily identifiable. And you could even embroider a bee or too as well! So many possibilities!!
ReplyDeleteI'm liking all the ideas for the sunflower background, so I'll just agree with them. Your tiny blocks are so cute! I should've joined in on that one (I know I still can, but I have too many projects going on!)
ReplyDeleteYou've received so much input already....but, thought maybe the blue sky should be scrappy squares like the leaves? The third row from left, second down seems about right....of course a couple of birds in there would be nice too...;-)
ReplyDeleteSo many fun ideas for your quilt... I love the idea of a sun and cloud added in with some wildlife- birds, butterfly's maybe a little bee visiting the sunflower. I am really enjoying watching this one progress along.
ReplyDeleteYou're on the right track with your sprouts/sunflower quilt - I think you'll enjoy it more if you have a variety of things in the upper part. Go for it!
ReplyDeleteI love this rainbow scrap one! I'm going to have to come back to see it finished.
ReplyDeleteI like how the sprouts/sunflower piece is developing and also agree with many of the suggestions for making the sky more interesting. I never did start the tiny Tuesday blocks when I got home from FL. I should really try to squeeze in two a week.

Such good ideas percolating for your Sprout quilt!! Enjoy the adventure.
ReplyDeleteI like the partial dresden as the shining sun! Maybe scrappy blues for the sky, transitioning into scrappy whites for clouds? A bias strip rainbow? There's really no way to do it wrong, is there :)
ReplyDeleteI'm with Louise-- there really is no way to be wrong on the sprouts quilt. Can't wait to see what you do! I love those tiny blocks, too. Such a nice quilt that will be!
ReplyDeleteLOVING your sprouts blocks/quilt! i will put that on my "to do" list. ha! how about some crumb blocks for your sky? that would give some depth and interest. and maybe some flying geese? i didn't take the time to read all the comments above; maybe that's already been suggested....
ReplyDeleteI love those Tiny Tuesday blocks too. I really enjoy projects that are more "sampler" in nature, such as my Countdown to Christmas sampler quilt. I like making different blocks in a quilt.
ReplyDeleteYes to the texture and interest on the background of your Scrappy Sprouts!
A lot of progress on your projects! Lovely aqua blocks
ReplyDeleteLove that Spinning Star block. Can't wait to see the top of your Scrappy Sprouts. I like your ideas. mary
ReplyDeleteI have my sprouts stashed away but you sure make me feel like getting them out to play! You have some great ideas for moving those sprouts forward!
ReplyDeleteI think your little blocks are my favorite of all I have seen!!
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed your sprouts all last year, and now with the sunflowers they look so happy. I’m sure you’ll figure out the top (or already have!) but I’ll throw my two cents in anyway. I wonder how scrappy blue and white crumb blocks would look as a background to the sunflowers. I love how the Tiny Tuesday blocks look with the gray background. It really makes them stand out.
ReplyDeleteYour Tiny Tuesday blocks are going to make a very fun and bright quilt. I like how you are approaching the floral part of your Scrappy Sprouts project. That's going to be such a pretty quilt when it's all finished. (you could add a butterfly block or too)
ReplyDeleteI am loving all your projects!
