"Some assembly required"... that's where I am with the quarter star blocks. You can see the full set of 100 blocks in my weekend post here. I want to be really careful when sewing these together so that I don't get any blocks turned around the wrong way! This is when I'm really happy that blogging makes me take pictures of my projects so that I can refer back to them for quilt construction.
I started by laying out just the first two rows of blocks at the top of the design.
I decided that I would sew them first in pairs and then in fours to keep the length of seams manageable for as long as I could. A fun side note is that these larger blocks show a blue quarter star coming together where the blocks touch!
This simple sewing process works well as a leader/ender when working on other blocks.
Progress! I'm going to continue this process until all the rest of the blocks are sewn into fours, and then combine them into bigger blocks.

I really love this quilt project!.
ReplyDeleteHow exciting! Your quilt is coming together. Great idea on sewing quarter stars in groups of 4 and using your photo layout for reference. Enjoy your sewing time, Diann. Hugs.
ReplyDeleteLooking good and moving ahead!
ReplyDeleteLove this piece! Can't wait to see the final project!
ReplyDeleteLooks like a fun quilt to put together, I like your method. You are smart to be careful. I was hurrying to finish some blocks before sitting down to watch the news yesterday, and yep, I put the last one together wrong. Jack the Ripper was my friend last night.
ReplyDeleteYour quarter stars is such a fun project. Making chunks to sew together is a good idea. I've been thinking how I'm going to sew Wild and Goosey together. That may be a better approach than sewing it as a medallion quilt.
ReplyDeleteThis will be fun watching as you 'grow' this quilt;)
ReplyDeleteI've enjoyed reading about your progress and I look forward to seeing it put together.
ReplyDeleteYou might consider doing the assembly using the web method to keep everything straight after you get the four-patch blocks done. It is going to be a wonderful quilt.
ReplyDeleteThese 1/4 stars are looking beautiful coming together...nice work on these...hugs, Julierose
ReplyDeleteI take pictures of blocks laid out on my design wall too, because things can get so turned around when taking them to the sewing machine. What a beautiful quilt this will be! I think the choice of background really has made those scraps pop!
ReplyDeleteyes it is best to keep a photo handy when you need points in certain directions I keep referring to phoitos for my hexies - it really helps
ReplyDeleteSo cute, Diann! You've got it very organized!!!
ReplyDeleteI use photos from my phone or iPad all the time. I can’t seem to be consistent without a “map”!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great way to "work up to" the longer seams! I really like this project!
ReplyDeleteA very practical way to keep those blocks organized and sewn into rows. I just love how these looks and may have to make some for next year's RSC.
ReplyDeleteOh, the quarter stars are coming together beautifully. I love the secondary pattern formed by the background. This quilt has such joie de vivre.
