Midweek Update

The best thing about Mondays at this time of the year is that it's time for another prompt for the Stay at Home Round Robin!  This week's host, Emily at the Darling Dogwood, posted on Monday that our next border should be made with triangles.   That always gets me thinking, and excited to get going on my plan.

I first did a little shopping at my LQS and brought home a few more reds, yellows, and background white prints.  Here you can see where I left off last week, too.

The center block I started with has a glass of lemonade that I embroidered with silver metallic floss.  It's really hard to catch in a photograph, but I decided that I want to add more sparkly metallic fabric into this piece.  This red dot has silvery sparkles in it, so I next added a narrow border all the way around to contain all that lemon yellow from the previous border!

This now measures 18.5 x 18.5.

Then it was time to think about the triangles.  One of the new reds I bought has a gold design in it, so I decided to use that with this yellow on white background print for the next border and ended up making 12 red and white HSTs.

Those HSTs can make all kinds of different border designs, and I haven't decided exactly what I'll do with them yet.

Maybe this...?

I don't think I'll sew these together as a border yet until next week's border idea comes out.  I might combine two or even three border ideas for this next round.

  1. I went to the Beaver Island quilt retreats with Gwen Marston…she said “don’t commit too soon”. I think it’s a good idea to see what the next prompt will be before proceeding. I do like those HST’s though!

  2. Oooh, I like your border idea. That would be cool stand alone border. But I get wanting to see what comes out next week. I'm going for lap sized quilt, so I'll want to make all the borders to get it there. It's been fun to see all the options for triangles in a border.

  4. That's cool you can wait for the net border prompts to see if you can add them onto this round.

  5. Love your new fabrics! I’m determined to use what I have! But I may have to find more background fabric. Our JoAnns is closing! 😟 So I may go make a background haul! I have many scraps, but not backgrounds in yardage. Do you usually purchase a yard or more for backgrounds?

  6. Yellow and red are such a great combination. What a cheerful, summery quilt this will be.

  8. I know you like to keep your SAHRR projects on the small side, so combining borders is definitely the way to go.

  9. Oh, I like that possible layout, but I get the idea of waiting to see what's up next week. I love that you are adding some additional sparkle too - fun!

  11. What fun that you found some sparkly fabrics to add. I like your border the way it’s laid out, but who knows what’s around the corner for the next prompt. Now I have the Anticipation song in my head.
