Bowties in Aqua

I've been away from my sewing machine this week, but hand-piecing was possible and this little bowtie block is the perfect one to represent our trip!

We did not see dolphins, but we did see gray whales and tons of birds - pelicans, cormorants, seagulls - and seals, sea lions, and otters.

I particularly love seeing the pelicans, and there were lots of them in several places that we visited.  Mike enjoys trying to get photos of them gliding along.

I was able to finish up eight bowties in aqua for the month of September.

I've pieced 72 of these so far this year, and here they all are:

Isn't this going to be fun?!

One of my favorite souvenirs from a trip is fabric, and we had the chance to visit a great little quilt shop in Cannon Beach, Oregon, called Center Diamond.  I don't often buy kits, but I loved this small landscape project, and they offered a kit for it, so I thought - why not?!  I'll be making the quilt on the right on the cover of the pattern.  I'm excited to get to work on it!

What have you been working on this week?  I'll be checking in over at SoScrappy for ScrapHappy Saturday to see all the September projects!

  3. Seeing your bowties all together makes me want to make them too. I have 2 kits for small projects from trips this year - one from Arizona and one from Alaska. I need to get them made so I can enjoy them as reminders of the trips.

  12. Lots of bow tie blocks. They're going to make a fantastic "happy" quilt! Good for you to pick up a souvenir. One day maybe I'll make it to the West Coast to see all those animals. Sounds like a great time. I've been working on the Twilight Stars and also another Chubby Charmer tote for my daughter. This one is Autumnal so I really need to get it done and mailed out to her!

  15. Finishing!! I am working on finishing stuff that is soooo close. I put the binding on my 2023 Positivity Quilt and also a batik quilt top I had picked up at Goodwill and will donate. I want to mail them together so it was the perfect push to finish both of them.
Diann - how great to see some whales! My kids took the grandkids to Cannon Beach at the end of August. They loved it but it was gray and overcast. You were only about 3 hours from my town!!!
Your hand piecing always impresses me. I feel like if I hand pieced something it wouldn't be 'strong' enough?

  16. At the beginning of the year, it is fun to see what project each one will be working on during the year as their RSC. This time of year, we get to see the projects near completion, and it is such a delight. I love how your Bowtie blocks play together. It is a fun quilt. Enjoy! ;^)

  17. So many great things to see today. Your bow tie blocks are so cute. I'm guessing 6" finished? I've always enjoyed making bow tie blocks but I haven't made any for years. The landscape quilt you are planning on making reminds me of the beach access in Nags Head, NC. It has stairs down just like what is shown and often the sand covers the lower steps. I'm looking forward to seeing what you do with your kit.
