Good morning and Happy last Thursday of 2022! It's always hard to believe it when we get to the end of another year. But here we are! Google Photos made me a collage of some of the best moments of 2022. I didn't give it any input, it was just there. Kind of fun, though!
Mom in her apartment, Navy friends on the subway in Boston
Mike and me in Boston, Mom and me at our favorite Mexican restaurant, nieces and nephews
Mom and friends at Dairy Queen, my fall decorations on entryway table
Older son and me at Thanksgiving, and Mr. Gnome displayed on the Christmas tree.
I'm finishing up one more quilt to end the year. Love hand stitching the binding, which I was doing last night.
I found an interesting new book to read this week. In fact, older son recommended it, saying he saw it on the New York Times list of Notable Books of 2022.
Apparently it's not this author's first book, but it is her first novel.
The main character is a young woman in Bangalore, India, in the 1920s.
Read more about it here on Goodreads.
What are you looking forward to in the new year? Learning new things, going new places?
I would like to improve my crochet skills! A friend gave me a lesson in October or so, and I felt pretty competent with single and double crochet back then, and made this practice piece.
At that point I was pretty proud of myself, and planned to do more of it,
but now I'm feeling a little rusty, and probably need another lesson.
I'd really like to make something useful - like a hat, maybe?
After reading another blogger's series of posts about a trip she and her husband took last fall, I decided I would really like to see Lake Superior. I lived near Lake Ontario when I was growing up, and have visited Lake Erie and Lake Michigan, but haven't seen Huron or Superior. So that's on my travel list this year.
Of course, there will be new books to read, new quilt projects to stitch, and who knows what else. Bring it on!

I have seen all of the Great Lakes and they are worth the visit - some I have seen more of then others and would love to see more of Lake Superior - only have seen a small portion near the town of Superior also have not really seen a lot of Lake Huron just a little portion so would love to see both of those areas again although I think my husband would take a pass on both LOL
ReplyDeleteCan't believe the year is coming to a close
A trip to see the Great Lakes sounds great. We live near Lake Erie in Canada. Years ago we drove along the entire north shore of Lake Superior. Lots of rocks and trees. Rugged and beautiful. The section between Thunder Bay, Ontario and Duluth was spectacular. I can recommend lots of things for you to see and do around any of the Great Lakes…let me know! You look like you will reach your goal of a finished quilt by the end of the year.
ReplyDeleteI think I've "seen" all the lakes, but haven't really adventured around any of them. Born near Lake Ontario, went to college on Lake Erie. I'll look forward to your travelogue. Since our 2023 travel calendar is full, I'll have to put that grand tour off till 2024.
ReplyDeleteHi Diann! The 2022 collage is so fun - what great memories you made this year. I'm doing a bit of hand sewing on a binding, too. It's a fabulous way to spend an evening, in my book. Unless it's with a book! HAHA! Visiting all of the Great Lakes is a wonderful travel goal for 2023. I've always wanted to visit the Ice Caves on Lake Superior. The thought of walking a mile out onto the Lake just freaks me out, though. I'd still go - but think of how deep and cold that water has to be to freeze over enough to drive and walk on it?!! Yowza. I'd say visit in the summer for sure! There are fabulous walking trails throughout the area. Happy New Year to you! {{Hugs}} ~smile~ Roseanne
ReplyDeleteI live in the little triangle created by lakes, Huron, Ontario and Erie. So much beauty! I hope you get to enjoy a lovely trip to see Lake Superior
ReplyDeleteThat collage is fun! Good memories! You have me curious about your final finish! Love them”sprinkles” fabric! . Will The Bangalore Detectives Club be your first book of the year? Can’t wait to see! As you reminder me, keep going on the crocheting! You’ve got this!
ReplyDeleteGoogle Photos did a good job! Your Mom looks happy with her friends and in her apartment. We have no big plans for 2023 other than to choose a new home warranty company - lol! We talk about starting walking and maybe going to the gym a couple times a week, so I really hope we can get into that.
ReplyDeleteGive my love to Mother Superior when you visit! Michelle lived in Marquette, Michigan for four years while attending Northern Michigan University and we have see almost all her moods! Love your collage and hurray for the last bit of binding to sew for a finish!
ReplyDeleteDiann - I am looking forward to 2023 - and not only because our daughter will get married in October!!! We also have travel on the cards - Portland in February for a Bruce Springsteen concert and Grand Cayman in late April! Lots of crafting in store - I am hoping to re-start the neighborhood crafting group. Happy New Year to you and yours!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun collage and I think Google got it right with the picture of you & your son. I remember you were happy to get that picture since your son doesn't like getting his picture taken. That picture and the one of you & your Mom at the Mexican restaurant. Sounds like a fun trip to plan for 2023. Traveling is so fun! Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteOur son lives near Duluth which is on Lake Superior. If you really go there let me know maybe we'll happen to be up that way. Beautiful area. Crocheting is relaxing. Maybe you need to get some cotton yarn and crochet a dishcloth.
ReplyDeleteYay for good memories for 2022. Ahh... the satisfaction of binding. :-) Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteWhat wonderful photos of 2022; it is always fun to look back at when has done through out the year. It is hard to believe 2022 is coming to a close. Wishing you the most productive evening finishing the binding on your quilt. Happy New Year.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun photo collage! You had an eventful and productive 2022. The Great Lakes are pretty cool, we visited a couple of years ago having never been to any of them before. That's definitely a fun travel goal for 2023. Have a very happy New Year.
ReplyDeleteLove your year in review pics. When my middle daughter came to help me with packing I made sure she got to dip her tootsies in Erie, Superior, Huron and Michigan.
ReplyDeleteI like your 2022 photo collage. Google did a great job. Your Great Lakes trip sounds like lots of fun. I’ve only seen Lake Michigan and that still is an impressive image in my mind. Happy 2023!
