I have a dear local friend (my teaching partner of 20 years) who fell and broke her kneecap about a month ago. She had to have surgery and is now quite laid up for awhile, can't do anything active at all.
But she can do lots of hand stitching! So I've been going over to her house to visit and bringing along something to stitch on, too. One day, a couple other friends joined us and we got a crochet lesson! I've continued to practice, and I can now do the single crochet and double crochet stitches!
This is purely a practice piece with some rows of single and some of double.
Can you tell?
It will be long and narrow, so not good for anything, but has been fun to practice on.
I think I will unravel it all eventually, and re-do it as something square - a dishcloth perhaps?
Another afternoon, I just went over to visit by myself, so took my latest embroidery piece. This Kathy Schmitz's "The Great Pumpkin Haul." So much fun!
Kathy's design page shows the leaves stitched in green, but I googled "oak leaves in fall colors" and saw variegated red/orange/yellow - so I decided to stitch them in fall colors.
I did finish Autumn Brew, but not sure I shared it for the Sunday link-up here at Kathy's Quilts. Still need to get it fully finished.
Happy slow stitching today!
Sounds like you've had fun visiting and stitching. But what a miserable injury to have to heal from. Hope your friend is healing well and not too down in the dumps.
ReplyDeletesingle crochet and double crochet and you will learn almost any of the stitches now that you have the base stitches in your mind.
ReplyDeleteGood call on the leaves. Those pieces are so cute!
ReplyDeleteGreat start with the crochet lessons. A dishcloch will be pretty with this varigated yarn.
ReplyDeleteLove your embroideries, Diann. Best wishes for your friend recovery.
Happy stitching.
I love that you stitched the leaves in fall colors! And your coloring of the tealish wheelbarrow is perfect! I bought another paper mache' pumpkin and am going to paint about that color.
ReplyDeleteUgh, I’m so sorry about your friend! Sounds like she has lots of good company though. Your crocheting looks nice, so the practice is paying off. And your embroidered pieces are so sweet.
ReplyDeleteYour friend must have been thrilled with some company. Learning how to crochet - how cool! (I don't know how to do that, nor how to knit)
ReplyDeleteYikes! A broken kneecap sounds so painful! I wish her a speedy recovery! Next week I’m going to try to knit socks. A friend is going to give some of us a lesson at our 3-day retreat. Your crochet is looking good! I’m liking The Great Pumpkin Haul! The colored leaves look awesome. Good choice.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful stitching projects. Great work on crochet too! Happy stitching, and hope you have a great week!
ReplyDeleteYour crochet stitches look very good, the two autumn embroidery pieces are just lovely.

ReplyDeleteA great assortment of projects that you are working on Diann. You are tempting me again . I just may have to pull out my yarns for a bit of crocheting. Have a great week.
ReplyDeleteYour poor friend, it does sound painful! Good call on those oak leaves, they are definitely the right colour. And I love the little acorns too.
ReplyDeleteThat is a good idea to change the colors of the oak leaves to their pretty Autumn look. I like your embroidery. How nice that you are visiting your friend who is recovering. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteIt's so thoughtful of you to spend time with your old friend who is chair bound for a while. I love your embroideries.
ReplyDeleteYour poor friend! Makes me realize how grateful I need to be everyday just for the ability to be active. How fun to learn to crochet with a group of friends - that's how I learned. Your variegated piece looks fabulous. I love the colors on your embroidery fabric - crayons?
