Good morning and happy Tuesday! It's To-Do Tuesday at Texas Quilt Gal - thanks, Linda for hosting this fun link-up each week!
I'm enjoying these weekly to-do posts - they give a little structure to my time in the sewing room and also something to blog about later in the week!
There were lots of small projects on my list last week, and I finished several! I wish I could pick a favorite... maybe my mom's mug rug. She sure was pleased with it! I should have taken a picture of it when we were over there this afternoon. She's got a nice spot right next to her favorite chair for her water, phone, TV remote, and all the important items!
An unexpected bonus - my Full Spectrum mini quilt, from Kelly Young's book, Scrappy Improv Quilting, is almost finished! Just some more binding to do. I'll give you a sneak peek of the back. The quilting makes a fun design!
The other quilt I wanted to work on is the crumb hearts top I last showed in February. The center of the quilt top measures 36 inches square. I had added a bunch of borders to make it bigger, and have ended up not liking it. I think the borders were overwhelming the pretty center. So I cut off the borders! I left a narrow inner border of the aqua, and unstitched the Tula Pink Fairy Dust strips to change them to a single border, like this:
This quilt will end up about 45 inches square, and I think it will make a good one to donate to a children's charity. During Hands2Help I sent a baby quilt to
the Cool Kids Campaign in N. Carolina, and I would love to send them more!
So on this week's list:
- Get the crumb heart quilt's borders sewn back on, and start figuring out a backing for it.
- Start on my purple blocks for July - purple is the color of the month for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge. I don't have a lot of purple in scraps or stash, so there may need to be some shopping... but I did find two fun fat quarters in purple!
The grapes will become two more new cloth napkins for our dinner table.
The penguins on purple will probably show up in all sorts of projects! 💜
That will keep me busy!
I have liked the changes you made on Crumb Hearts quilt borders.
ReplyDeleteWho won't be happy to receive such a beautiful quilt?!
I do like your patriotic mug rug, the waves lines quilting gave to it moviment. Very Cool. Happy Tuesday Diann.
Your purple penguins will be perfect in your RSC projects. I really like how you are doing your borders on your heart quilt, so sweet!
ReplyDeleteI like your aqua border for those pretty crumbs. The purple penguin and grape fabrics are pretty! Sounds like you are having fun in the sewing room.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing with us at To Do Tuesday!
Good luck with the borders on your crumb hearts. It is such an adorable quilt. I almost picked up an end of bolt of that Tula Pink fabric at a quilt shop in SD, but I was on a schedule and they were super busy so I didn't wait. I have regretted it. Maybe an online order is the way to go? Anxious to see Full Spectrum completed. Love those penguins on the purple fabric, they will be fun to put to use!
ReplyDeleteI hope your mom will enjoy the mug rug it is cute! love the heart quilt
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for sending a quilt to Cool Kids Campaign in NC. I got an email from them when they received my box. They were very happy with the quilts they got. I'm sure they would be able to find a good home for your crumb hearts. I like what it looks like now. I'm guessing you made w slabs of crumbs for each block and cut them to the heart size then added squares sewn on the diagonal for the shaping? I might have to play with that idea. It might make a very small dent in my scraps! (very small is the key there...) Have a great week.
ReplyDeleteYup - the quilting on the crumb quilt is pretty cool!
ReplyDeleteYour mom's flag mug rug is wonderful, and the heart quilt is so pretty.
ReplyDeleteI love the crumbs heart quilt, I do love hearts when made like this. The colours are great, if I was a little person I'd love receiving a quilt like it.
ReplyDeleteYour crumb heart quilt is adorable. That is a wonderful donation quilt.
ReplyDeleteSo sweet of you to make that cheery and festive mug rug for Mom! I think that was a good call on those borders. Looks much more balanced. I'm not into purple but that is some cuuute penguin fabric! (My daughter took her kids to a special outdoor event at the library and sent a pic of penguin in the center of all of the kids/parents sitting in a circle. So cute!)
