Escape. Sometimes we need it. After the news of the past week, I definitely do.
Does it look like Mike is trying to escape here? This is a place we visited on our trip, in Provincetown, Mass. I've seen it called by two names: the Provincetown Causeway and the Long Point Dike. Maybe my Massachusetts friends can tell me the right one. It's very scenic and fun to walk on!
Back here at home, I like to escape the news of the world in many ways. Birdwatching is one for me. You can't see them here, but we're pretty sure there's a chickadee family hatching in the lower birdhouse in our backyard. We've been watching the parent birds go back and forth to our suet feeder and then into the birdhouse. I'm hoping to see the baby birds sometime soon.
We escaped the other day for a picnic and walk at a favorite spot where we can usually find the yellow-headed blackbirds this time of year, and they were there. The males are really beautiful, and make some very distinctive and noisy calls.
It's been great to get things planted this week. I've shared before that I'm a very small scale gardener, but enjoy the attempt at a few veggies and flowers.
We've also had some lovely rain here the last few days -
so good for a very parched Colorado.
And how about escaping into the Star Wars universe for a few hours every Friday the next few weeks? We enjoyed the first episodes of Obi-Wan Kenobi on Disney+ last weekend. Looking forward to the rest of the show!

And, finally, one of my favorite places to escape is into my sewing room. Here's what I've been working on the last few days. PopStar is basted and ready to quilt, plus I've been playing with a gingham tablerunner design in reds. The squares are ready to sew together - this is surprisingly simple and soooo fun!
Thanks for visiting today! Hope you're having a good week.
I'm joining in with LeeAnna and friends
for "I Like Thursday" at Not Afraid of Color.
Great Escapes! I've never heard of a yellow-headed blackbird. We have one red-winged blackbird that visits our feeder at the same time every afternoon. He's almost too big, though, and if another bird is on it, his weight will spin both of them off.
ReplyDeleteI am so glad you let the gingham squirrel in to play!!!
ReplyDeleteI had not heard of the Obi-Wan show - I'm pretty sure we have Disney+ I just usually never watch that channel for some reason. Small scale gardening is good - easy to keep up with for sure and doesn't take hours of work but gives pleasure. I am so tired of hearing of shootings on the news last night I read of another closer to home it happened in Tulsa at a medical center I think four killed - when will it stop
ReplyDeleteThe causeway looks like a fun walk. I love seeing birds. The yellow blackbirds are so pretty. Your small scale farm looks awesome. I have the pop star pattern. I just can't settle on the fabrics I want to use. I need to catch up on the Star Wars shows on Disney +. I was watching Jamestown on PBS the last couple of days.
ReplyDeleteI would love to walk on that rocky pier too. It would be so wonderful with the sea all around! Great job in the sewing room. Love PopStar and that gingham table runner looks really cool from afar! I've been thinking about you the past few days with your former occupation and the TX news. I can certainly understand how this has really struck a chord with you and I feel really bad for you. Thank goodness we have our "escapes". It's the only thing that makes sense sometimes. Quilt on!
ReplyDeleteHi Diann! That causeway looks SO inviting. It does look like a walk I'd like to take someday. And birdwatching, I definitely enjoy. Just sitting on our back porch, we have a ton of different birds to watch. I enjoy doing that as I grill our dinner or after dinner to just get some fresh air and chill. Ooh, I spy a bit of the red gingham runner in the background. I look forward to seeing that real soon! It should inspire me to make my own. {{Hugs}} ~smile~ Roseanne
ReplyDeleteGlad you are having fun with that pretty red gingham. Popstar is zooming along, will you hand quilt it, or did I already ask you that? Your raised beds are so nice. I'm thinking of doing that for next year. I'm so tired of the weeds in our beds!
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you and Mike were able to join your friends for the trip to the East Coast. That causeway looks like a fun place to explore. The yellow-headed blackbird reminds me of growing up in SDak. We had them there, and they were such fun to watch. Your PopStar is looking great, and I look forward to seeing your gingham quilt!
ReplyDeleteI have to agree with all your escapes, ditto for me! Beautiful Pop Star, Diann.
ReplyDeleteThe causeway looks like a very enjoyable walk! I also love bird watching; they are just so good for the soul! I look forward to seeing your version of the gingham table runner; it is on my list of things to make! And your Pop Star looks wonderful! :)
ReplyDeleteOf all the times I've gone to Ptown, I've never done the causeway. I suspect one is the official name and the other is the local name. I bet they're both right! Birds are fun - we don't have the yellow headed blackbirds around here. Pretty!
ReplyDeleteWe all need an escape from time to time, Diann. You shared some really nice ways/places to take your mind off things!
