Slow Stitching in Red

Earlier in the month I decided that one of my Rainbow Scrap Challenge projects was going to be hand-pieced plus blocks with black and white prints for the backgrounds.  This week I stitched two more, for a total of 4 for the month.

I guess I have to decide how many of these I want to make each month!  It doesn't take long to stitch up two per week.  So, if I make 8 each month, that will give me 80 by the end of October.  That will make another 48 x 60 throw, which is the size of Trip Around the Rainbow, my 2021 hand-pieced project.

In between plus blocks, I've been working on Frosty #8 from Melisa at PinkernPunkin Quilting.  Frosty and his little bird friend are trying not to be "Blown Away!" (That's the block name!)

Hang on to your hat, Frosty!

  2. 2 beautiful projects for hand stitching/sewing.
    Frost blocks are adorable.
I would love seeing how you hand sew your blocks as they look like beeing machine sewn, so perfect they are.
    Happy stitching!

  3. Two per week should be manageable, especially knowing you'll have enough for a quilt at year's end.

  7. Those snowmen sure are cute and I love the new hand pieced project this year. Where did you hear there would not be a hand pieced sew along this year? I forgot to ask that from a previous post.

  9. My frosty stitching came to a hault this past week as I ran out of red thread, I looked at Walmart and they didn't have it. Haven't made it across town to Hobby Lobby to see if they do. And I am on the last one I had printed out so will have to see about borrowing a printer. I love the little birdie flying off frosty's hand on this block.

  11. Your hand-pieced plus blocks for RSC 22 look great. You've really mastered hand-piecing. We're expecting 12+" of snow tonight through tomorrow. I guess I have no excuse for not getting some sewing done.

  12. Love your hand-piecing project. I was thrilled to learn yesterday at my chapter TAS (The Applique Society) mtg that we will be having a hand-piecing class coming up next month, complete with project. I'll be signing up, for sure! Hoping we can get a little hand-piecing group together afterwards.

  15. Your hand pieced blocks look great. And the Frosty stitched series is delightful, I have seen these on Melissa's blog and I'm rather tempted, but then, we dont have snow fall like that where I live.

  17. Brilliant idea Diann! Do your eyes bother you after you sew with red? I used to "see red" for a while after I did hand sewing with red. Anyway, I love these blocks and the background! Fantastic job!

  18. You've got a good plan for your handstitched RSC blocks for 2022. Your snowman came out beautifully too. You've been really productive with needle and thread.
