I really like the Stay at Home Round Robin project, and want to thank all the quilters who sponsor it for the fun and inspiration! (More info about it here) It makes Monday mornings exciting, because that's the day the new prompt for the next border is out. This week it is diamonds. After reading a few of the blog posts about how diamond blocks can be made, I gave it a try!
These were made using Wendy's technique. Wanting to keep mine small, I started with two inch squares and added colorful corners, then sewed all four corners together. They're not too bad! I think I got better with these as I went along.
These measure 3.5 inches square, but I trimmed them to 3 inches before sewing them into the quilt. I used them as cornerstones and added strips of a dark red in this pretty floral fabric line to complete the round.
Linking this up to The Darling Dogwood.
It is Thursday and so also time for my weekly "I Like Thursday" post that is shared over at Not Afraid of Color.
This week I enjoyed playing "Musical Bingo" over where my mom lives. It's a typical bingo game except with song titles instead of letters and numbers. The gal who runs the game plays a song excerpt and everyone gets to guess the title. Of course, it's fun to sing along, too!
I did some baking this week! I don't bake very often anymore, but this week a loaf of some kind of quick bread sounded good. I had been saving blueberries that were softer than I like on my cereal, so this seemed like a good way to use them up. This recipe for Blueberry Bread turned out really good!
We decided to join Amazon Prime this year, and one of the perks is more streaming TV shows to watch in the evenings. I noticed that we could watch "Grantchester" from the beginning of the first season, so we've been doing that and enjoying it this week. Just like reading a book series from the beginning, I like watching a TV series from the beginning!
Have a happy Thursday!
we have had Prime for years and enjoy it - There are quite a few English shows I have watched over the years that I have enjoyed but I haven't seen that one. I do enjoy the free shipping that you get by being a member.
ReplyDeleteSo nice to see you spend time with your mother doing things with her - glad she will take part of the activities at her place for seniors - so many will just stay in their little apartment like my mom did - she missed out on so much because of it.
I have had prime for years. Not only because of the free shipping, but the free books too, but the TV portion is a plus also. Love your SAHRR quilt. The bread looks yummy. How fun to spend time with mom and play what looks like a very fun game.
ReplyDeleteYour SAHRR is looking good! I miss the lead character in the first season of Grantchester, but his replacement is pretty good.
ReplyDeleteNever heard of musical bingo. Your diamonds look great in the corners. We made brownies and finally got a good batch in the RV oven-we put in an unglazed floor tile to help disburse the heat better, first time trying it and it worked! Now I want to try cookies;)
ReplyDeleteYour SAHRR is looking really good! Great way to make "perfect" diamonds! Musical Bingo sounds like a lot of fun and I know my mother would enjoy it too. Happy Thursday!
ReplyDeleteYour SAHRR is looking great. I think I would love musical Bingo. I think I will have to check out Grantchester. I have been looking for something new to watch.

ReplyDeleteLove that little quilt project and the flowery fabric, Diann. It all goes together beautifully.
ReplyDeleteYou will not regret Amazon PRime...lots to explore there to watch. While munching delicious cake and staying cozy. We enjoyed Grantchester too.
Your blueberry bread looks wonderful. I haven't baked that in a while. I started watching Grantchester years ago on PBS but never finished. I'd like to start over so thanks for sharing that it is on Prime. I've just started following LeeAnna's blog and that is how I found you.
ReplyDeleteHi Diann! I think you did your diamonds proud. They look so darn cute! Using them as cornerstones with the red background fabric really them stand out as well as emphasize the great curves! Ooh, that blueberry bread looks yummy! Thanks for sharing the link. {{Hugs}} ~smile~ Roseanne

ReplyDeleteYour SAHRR block is looking maaaahvelous, dahling! Seriously, I love how you used the diamonds as cornerstones and brought in color with the rest of the border. It’s really eye-catching!
