Sometimes a week takes you in all directions. Last Friday evening, we were able to watch these two lovely people get married by way of Zoom. The wedding was in the San Francisco area.
This is my brother's daughter, Renee, and her husband, Sean. Both of my brother's girls got married this year - we told him he won the wedding lottery!
Only immediate family of the bride and groom were there, and lots of us watched on Zoom.
We brought my mom over to watch the wedding on our big computer screen, and toasted them with a glass of wine. My mom told me she was happy as a clam!
Really, the only problem with Zoom weddings is you don't get any cake. So I made sure we had a little wedding-like cake. I found this at our King Soopers grocery store - it was called Lemon Cream Shortcake. Tasty!
I also read a good book this week, and that's always a happy time for me. Eight Hundred Grapes, by Laura Dave, also the author of The Last Thing He Told Me.
Another "couldn't put it down" book. I don't remember who shared this book in a post recently (was it you, Wendy?!), but thanks for the recommendation! This is a good one!
Unfortunately, late Tuesday night we learned that Mike's mom had passed away. She was 93, and had been in declining health for several years, but it's still hard. She will be missed! I'm happy that we just saw her a couple weeks ago. This photo was taken on Mother's Day when the family was last able to get together. That, of course, made her really happy, and you can see it in the smile on her face!
Thanks for visiting on "I Like Thursday" hosted by LeeAnna at Not Afraid of Color. Hope you're having a great day!
I'm sorry for your loss Diann. Keeping your family in my thoughts and prayers!!!
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear Mike lost his mom, hugs to you all. What a fun idea you had to get a little cake to go with the zoom wedding. Not the same as being there in person, but better than not seeing it at all!
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear about your MIL but glad you have been able to spend time with her. Zoom is definitely changing our world! I think I can get discounts at King Sooper with my Kroger card.
ReplyDeleteglad you got to see Mike's mom just a couple weeks ago - that is sad but at that age expected. The wedding looks like it was pretty and I think so many are having very small weddings right now which is good actually.
ReplyDeleteI will need to check out the book.
I'm so sorry to hear about Mike's mom. It's never easy to lose your mom, no matter their age or health. And yes, it was me who recommended the book - I'm so glad you enjoyed it. What a great way to enjoy watching a wedding too - together with wine and cake. So glad your mom is close by so you could watch the wedding together!
ReplyDeleteOh! So sorry to hear about Mike’s mom. It’s hard.
ReplyDeleteWhat fun though to have cake even if you watched the wedding on ZOOM! That does help us feel more connected.
I’ll add that book to my list! I’ve noticed it on the web!
Happy Thanksgiving to you both!
That's a beautiful photo, Diann. Sorry to hear of her passing but 92, gee, a great age. Lovely likes and I enjoyed your update in the last post of your stitchy projects. Moving right along! I love store bought cake icing actually.
ReplyDeleteDiann, I am so sorry about the loss of your mother in law. No matter their age, it's always a hard time. On another, happier, note, it's great that you got to see your niece's wedding. Sometimes life is like that, happy and sad at the same time. Hugs all around, both for the happy and the sad.
ReplyDeleteYay for the zoom wedding. I love that you bought cake. That's the way to celebrate. lol
ReplyDeleteMy condolences for Mike's mom. Glad she got to see family in person, especially with the pandemic. The smiles will be remembered.
I'm so sorry to hear Mike lost his mom. It is never easy no matter how clearly you know the time is coming. Been there and done that. I'm glad he got to see her not long ago. And I'm happy that your Mom seems to be doing well.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry for your loss! She looks like she was a beautiful woman inside and out!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your niece's wedding. How wonderful that you and your family could attend via zoom . The cake looks awful yummy. I am so glad you all was able to enjoy your own cake in celebration too. I am also so sorry for your family's loss. Your family is in my thoughts and prayers.
ReplyDeleteI like the way you think! Having cake on hand is really a great idea. So glad your mom could join you to watch the wedding. The book looks interesting...I'll have too put it on my list. So sorry to hear about Mike's mom. Yes, we know it is coming but it still takes us be surprise and the loss leaves a hole in the heart. Best wishes.
ReplyDeleteThe zoom wedding looks awesome, and how cool that you could attend via zoom. The cake looks yummy...I have a thing for lemon cake. I am so sorry for your families loss. Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers.
ReplyDeleteSo nice to have a Zoom option for the wedding. I'm sorry to hear about your mother-in-law. Passing is never easy.
ReplyDeleteI will have to check out that novel - thanks for the recommendation.
Oh, goodness, Diann! Happy you all got to enjoy the wedding, but so sorry for the grief you must be feeling at Mike's Mom's passing. Some weeks really know how to throw you a curve ball, don't they?
ReplyDeleteSo sorry to hear that Mike’s mom passed. It sounds like she had a wonderful, long life, although that doesn’t make it any easier. Hugs to you both.
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry for your loss. We seem to be losing all the elderly in my parents' group of friends, so it gets scary when your own parents are 90 and 85.
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry for the loss of Mike's mother. She looks like a sweet person. You're right, it's still hard. So glad you were able to spend time with her recently! Will someone adopt her dogs?
ReplyDeleteWhat a nice thought to have cake on hand for a Zoom wedding! I'm glad your Mom got to watch it with you.
