I Like Thursday #230

Happy Thursday!  I'm joining in, as I always do, with LeeAnna and friends at Not Afraid of Color for "I Like Thursday," to share some good things from my week!

We're getting ready to move my mom from the Phoenix area up here to Colorado so that she can be closer to my sister and me because she's needing a lot more help as she approaches 90.  I've set up for her to live in an Independent Senior apartment just a few blocks from me.  The other day I stopped in over there to take care of some business, and I loved this sign on her door.  They're ready for her to move in!

Another thing I'm getting ready for is the Follow Your Own Path QAL over at mmmquilts.  I've been pulling from my stash for this new project and here's where I'm at so far.  I want to make a rainbow version like Sandra's original on the pattern cover.  I did purchase the dark gray for the backing and solid colors for the shadow parts of the blocks.

We really enjoyed this movie on Netflix the other night.  It's based on a true story, which are always my favorites.  Philomena is an Irish woman who was forced to give up a baby for adoption when she was a teenager, and has been looking for this child throughout her life.  A journalist hears about her quest and helps her figure out what happened to her child.

Last week we brought home the new grill, so this week we've been trying different things on it.  A steak turned out really yummy, but we overcooked a piece of fresh tuna - darn it!  We're having to get used to this grill being more powerful than the old one!  We bought a grill basket for things that would be hard to turn, and tried some asparagus in it last night.  It turned out quite crispy (so I need to experiment with the grill temp and time I leave it on), but the asparagus was actually still quite good.

I've been waiting and waiting for my daffodils to bloom, and they finally are opening up.  I love their pretty yellow, but I'm not sure why they are all face down!

That's it for this week!  Have a great rest of the week!

  2. It is so much easier to manage when the aging parent is close. Our daffs droop after a rain.

  3. How wonderful about your Mom! Is she excited about the move? My husband makes asparagus for me on the grill - he won’t touch it - and it’s my favorite way to eat it. Have a great weekend!

  4. so nice your tulips opened! I really need to figure out my grill one day - I just prefer others to cook on one - not me! I hope your mother will adjust to her new apartment and with it being independent living still should make it nice for her - my mom had always been happy in her senior apartment

  5. My daffodils do that too! If you are looking for another good movie, see the Intouchables on Netflix. Wonderful.

  6. Your Daffodils are looking good, soon you will have tons. Glad your mama is moving closer, sometimes it is hard for them to give up what they view as their independence. I have a pan to grill veggies, but I usually eat salads with my meat so I don't use it often. My parents use a copper type mat that they swear by. Love your fabric choices for your quilt.

  7. So many happy things in your post today! I'm so glad your mom will be close to you, which will be easier and better for both of you. We love grilled asparagus, drizzled in olive oil and sprinkled with salt & pepper. Yum! Pretty fabrics for the QAL!

  8. Good news, I hope, about your mom being closer! It will be easier for you and your sister and I hope she will be happy! Mr Busy’s mom, loved her time in here apartment after we moved her closer to us! She got to see him every day, a plus for both of them! I like your fabric choices for the QAL. I think I have finally settled on mine. I made a trip to the local quilt shop with a friend on Wednesday. Just the 2 of us were there, and Elsa, the owner. We had a good visit!. I’m really looking forward to the QAL.

  9. What a big change for your Mom. I hope being close to you and your sister will compensate for giving up the warmth of the winters in Phoenix. Of course the heat of the Phoenix summers were probably pretty draining on her, even with AC. My daffs are in full bloom right now. They were practically lying on the ground after our snowfall last week, but they popped back up after a few days. Hyacinths are just starting to flower now.

  10. Congrats on the new grill. I have a grill basket very similar to this one. https://www.konabbqstore.com/products/kona-best-vegetable-grill-basket-10-year-guarantee?variant=12708656349207&currency=USD&utm_medium=product_sync&utm_source=google&utm_content=sag_organic&utm_campaign=sag_organic&gclid=CjwKCAjw07qDBhBxEiwA6pPbHtfatxHbrOf65_wFMzhY7hSMDmXZe0IYkhDKruFfLNvqfuvQg5236BoCWMMQAvD_BwE I also have a round one that fits my small grill better and its easier to stir/turn the veggies around in it. Is your Mom looking forward to being closer to you and your sister? Hope the move goes smoothly for everybody.

  11. Hi Diann! Oh, how wonderful that you'll have your mom close by both you and your sister. That will take away a lot of worrying for all of you. {{Hugs}} What a sweet welcome sign. Ooh, love your fabric pull for the QAL. We are working on ours, too. Asparagus on the grill - y.u.m.m.y.!!! Hmm, my grill has three knobs. I turn them all on to get it warmed up and then turn off the center when cooking. I'm not sure if that's an option for you - indirect heat. Yippee for Spring flowers. ~smile~ Roseanne

  14. It looks like you have joined an interesting QAL! I love the title! With our new low-fat diet, I'm learning to use the grill and yes, it's definitely a learning process. Oh! But the results are so yummy! The movie sounds fun - I have to wonder if the journalist isn't her son? :) Take good care!

  15. I’m so glad you’ll have your mother living closer to you! I wish the timing was better (for me) for Sandra’s QAL, because I do really like it. I’ll be following yours with excitement! My daffodils are like yours - face down. But mine are in a bed with northern exposure and they don’t get direct sunlight. I wonder if that’s why??
