I Like Thursday #221

Good Morning!

Today I'm liking my Roomba!  We were running him in the living room and he was just zooming around.  He did a good job - in fact, he picked up way more than we expected him to.

The photo is a little blurry because the little guy was zipping right along!

One of the best things about the Roomba is that I can be doing something else while the vacuuming is getting done.  It's a great time to put in a load of laundry, and because the laundry room is right off my sewing room, I just might have spent some time making more flying geese for my Stay at Home Round Robin project.

I like the "No Waste" method where you make four FG at one time, so while the Roomba was running I was able to cut the rest of the squares I need to make Border #3 of the project.

I've enjoyed stitching these tulips the past couple of weeks.  Each one is a tiny bit different because they're hand stitched, and I like that.  Each one is unique.

I'm thinking of putting them together with the floral fabric they're laying on for the sashing.  It has all the perfect colors to connect these tulips.

What's for dinner?  Anything in the crockpot!  Last night it was chicken and white bean chili.  Our older son created the recipe, so there's no link for me to share, but it's an easy one.  A chicken breast, green chile enchilada sauce, Rotel tomatoes with green chilis, a can of green chilis, and cream of chicken soup.  I cook the whole chicken breast in the sauce all afternoon, shred it up, and add the beans.  Yum!

Mike eats his just like a bowl of chili with grated cheese on it.
I like mine with some brown rice and avocado..

And reading this week:

Something I always enjoy about Michael Connelly's books is that he uses real landmarks and places like restaurants in Los Angeles as part of the setting.  Mike and I are always looking these places up on the map.

Another interesting part of this story is that it takes place in February of 2020, right when we were all starting to learn about Covid.  That plays into the story, too.

Hope you're having a great week!  Be sure to check out all the "I Like Thursday" posts at Not Afraid of Color.

  2. Beautiful sunrise! We either haven't had any beauties lately or I'm waking up too late. I've been thinking about a robot vac for the sewing room. Your sashing choice would be perfect.

  3. I liked how the virus played into the book also - just a mention at first and then a little more scattered throughout the book - the chicken dish sounds good. The tulips turned out great!

  4. I think your choice of sashing for your appliqué tulips is perfect! Thanks for the white bean chicken chili recipe! It’s sounds a lot like the one our son makes. Avocado would be my choice of garnish also! Yum!

  6. Glad you are liking the Roomba, and that it's working well. I've heard good things about them. Your little bouquet of flowers are growing, which is fun to see. That crockpot meal looks tasty, and I appreciate the book recommendation, too.

  7. Beautiful sunrise. Love your pic of your roomba with your small quilt logs? Are those rolled up table runners, wall hangings etc? Your chili looks yummy. I use the Bush's white chicken chili recipe, which is very similar to yours except for the green enchilada sauce. I love rotel or any diced tomatoes and chilies combination. It is so versatile. Love you tulips.

  8. Hi Diann! Look at that sky! It's just gorgeous. I love our Roomba-wannabe. I tried the mop feature for the first time last weekend and it did a super job. I can't say enough good things about it. And while it's running and the laundry is going you might as well just work on some flying geese! Great way to get three things done at one time. Ooh, thanks for the book recommendation, too. I like Michael Connelly. ~smile~ Roseanne

  11. I like reading stories that are based in places I know. I get excited when I know precisely where a scene is. I’m easy to please. :-)

  13. What a pretty sunrise! We had a Roomba clone for awhile, but he died on us so we sent it back. The kitties were terrified of it! That floral fabric looks perfect for your tulips. Thanks for sharing the chili recipe. Sounds easy and good!

  14. Lots going on around your place. I had to laugh at your Roomba. We have had one for several years. It resides in my studio (which is awesomely big.) But I hardly ever use it. Late last night I went down to the studio and thought, I should start it up and get at least half of the room done. I picked up stools, pushed chairs in other areas and made sure there was nothing it could "swallow" and set the "fences" so it could actually get the space done without running out of battery. I pushed start as I went back upstairs. I kept hearing it bang into legs and walls for quite a while. This morning I checked and it had done a great job and had gone back to the station. So, why haven't I used it in 3 years? It's definitely going to be put to use more often. Hope you keep enjoying yours.

Your tulips are so cute and wow! hand stitched? Good for you.

  15. Oh, wonderful to have a Roomba cleaning and zooming everywhere! I guess it's fun to watch, and meantime, to sew! This book sounds interesting, thanks for it.

  16. A beautiful sunrise! I'm really loving the colors you are using in your SAHRR. No Rhomba at my house, but usually My Guy will vacuum if I ask. Not quite the same, but hey it works.

  17. I love my Roomba too. He doesn't the job my regular vacuum can do but it saves me from the majority. I find I usually have to run my vacuum about once a month to get to the spots he can't. He's a good boy! I'm reading "Law of Innocence" too! I finished up both my eBook and my audio book. Your tulip blocks are very pretty. I like the look of them ... wide at the bottom ... just like me! Ha!
