It's been a wild week in our neck of the woods in more ways than one! First, there's been wildlife.
Our friend, the praying mantis had a gentleman caller!
He was brown and much smaller than she is.
And I think there may be some babies hatching next Spring! 😉
Another day last week, we went up to Estes Park to walk by the lake, and we saw two elk, possibly a mother and baby, on one side of the path...
And a bear up in a tree on the other side of the path!
It was a gorgeous day up there! Sometimes we encountered other humans, but in other places, the view up ahead was like this -
Then there was the wild weather Monday night and most of Tuesday. The temperature fell about 60 degrees and it did snow. Not very much, but enough to bring down a big tree branch. Darn it! Clean up work is on the to-do list today!
I can't complain about the needed moisture - it will help the huge wildfire in our county that had grown to 100,000 acres as of Monday.
Of course, there is always wildlife in my sewing room, in the form of squirrel projects that distract me from what I should really be working on! This week it is all Preeti's (of Sew Preeti Quilts) fault, due to her post the other day that included the dimensions for making Petite Sisters. Well, you know me, I just had to make some, and they are fun!
These Little Sisters measure 8 inches square,
and I'm sure there will be more!
Hope you've had a good week, with nothing too wild going on! I'm joining in with LeeAnna and friends at Not Afraid of Color for I Like Thursday.
Find more fun posts there!
I saw you had snow, someone posted that Amarillo TX was supposed to have a high of 20 and Dallas in the 100's. I noticed I had a couple of large branches down too after the thunderstorms that went through the other day. Wow great wildlife photos.
ReplyDeleteWow on the branch - it looks like a big one. Was it the wind that brought it down? Love all your wildlife photos. How close was that bear? Now if you could just control those cute little squirrels in your room. ;)
ReplyDeleteYour tiny Sisters are so cute! I've avoided making any because I know they could take over. Glad you didn't get too much snow but there must have been something inherently wrong with that branch to come down so easily. I don't even want to think about that bear!!!
ReplyDeletethat branch did come pretty close to the house didn't it, might be time to get the one dangling over the house trimmed too. The temperatures for y'all were so weird to drop so much - we have had that happen in winter to start out in the 70's and go down to the 20's. Love the photos of the park - that was Estes Park you said I know we have seen bear outside of the park when we were driving to it a couple years ago.
ReplyDeleteI had been wondering how your weather was since it was only 50 degrees for a high here. I sure don't want to see any of that white stuff for a few months yet. Looks like that tree just missed your house, yikes.
ReplyDeleteI want to say to that gentleman caller: Dude! She's not worth it! Run away! LOL
ReplyDeleteBig bear! How close was he?
Those Little Sisters are very cute. Love the colors you picked.
that is a big tree limb.. of course to have big limbs you need big trees... none around here. We had a lot of snow, for a long time, still cloudy today and more rain forecast. Your sisters block fabrics are really pretty... estes was so clear, we have had such smoke there's been no blue skies.
ReplyDeleteFantastic, Diann. Preeti was SEW hoping that the Petite Sisters would be popular!
ReplyDeleteYou have had a wild week. I had avoided the temptation of Preeti's International Sisters blocks by telling myself blocks as big as her originals (10" I think) would make too big a quilt. By now, the petite sisters may be hard to dismiss. Not before I finish a few other things, though. Hope the coming week is a little calmr for you.

Although I am jealous that you are so close to nature and enjoy wildlife and pristine views I am relieved that the tree missed your house. Yes, there will be clean-up but much better than having to fix a roof. PHEW, you dodged that bullet, Diann. But then you fell prey to a squirrel :-D
ReplyDeleteI LOVE you. You are my cheerleader and I am thrilled to bits to meet the new petite sisters. Thank you for sharing them and I so appreciate the shout-out. Big Squishy Hugs to you.
Just love your petite sisters, they are so cute! Not fun to have clean up due to snow but I suppose it could be so much worse! I'm headed over to Preeti's website now! Have a great day!
ReplyDeleteHi Diann! Oh, your Little Sisters look so darn cute. I just received a package from Preeti of six larger International Sisters. Somehow, I suspect they will get plenty of attention this weekend. I'd like to drop everything and make a donation quilt using them right away. Your view on your walk is spectacular but I cannot believe you saw a bear in a tree. I know they climb trees but I've never seen it outside of movies or TV. WOWEE! Take care and stay safe. ~smile~ Roseanne
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely walk in Estes Park! I we haven’t been there for several years!
ReplyDeleteLove your petite sisters! I can’t resist any longer! I will have some ready soon! Thank you to Preeti and you, got the encouragement!
It's been a quiet day over here in Lake Wowbegone (wink). We made a quick run for some shopping this afternoon, and I got a quilt bound and ready for a finish, and another batik quilted. I'm off to add the binding now. Bummer on the downed branch, but you sure had some fun wildlife sightings!
ReplyDeleteEeesh! I found a praying mantis enjoying the new growth on one of my favorite plants. I hope she’s alone!
ReplyDeleteYou seem to be surrounded by beauty. The views are lovely.
Oh! The Sisters blocks are so pretty! I need to look into that for sure! Thank you for sharing the link!
What a lovely walk you had! Been almost too many years to remember since I was in Estes Park! The Little Sisters are cute as can be. Don't go giving me more ideas, please.
ReplyDeleteYour Petite Sister blocks reminds me that I need to send some fabric to a friend in Australia for her Petite Sister quilt.
ReplyDeleteTHe same kind of weather happened here too. I guess the wind was super bad up North with lots of damage. Fires, wind, Covid, Oh My!
Initially, I was jealous to see your snow but sorry to see the damage. Those fires are just surreal. Ah yes, pretty Estes Park. Enjoy your cool weather!
ReplyDeleteWhen we visit our friends near Canon, they always lament the lack of interesting wildlife. I explain, I am fine with seeing the deer, antelope, cattle and long horn sheep, I don't want to see the mountain lions or bears!! LOL Hopefullly one of these days we will see the Elk that come around.
ReplyDeleteTruly a wild week! Sorry to hear about that tree branch but glad it didn't hit the house. Could've been a WILD catastrophe! Let's hope the snow brings some relief from the fires. Wonderful walk ... I do miss walking/hiking with my sister in Colorado.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely wild, wild weather this last week. Glad you escaped without too much damage. Love your mini ladies, very elegant.
